Hello Reddit

Hoping for some advice here, not quite sure how to proceed with my application for a D Visa for jobseekers.

I’ve relocated, registered (anmeldung) and have emailed for an appointment at my local ABH. They requested passport copy and then asked for a letter of commitment (for a German resident to say they can take care of my financial needs). I was told bank statements are not accepted and only this letter.

This contradicts the info available for applications online, I have funds/could set up a blocked account but this doesn’t appear to be an option.

I get ABH will be super busy, I’m concerned as my husband also received some wrong info (it got sorted) from the same advisor.

I’ve emailed to clarify that the info on this website is incorrect – what would you do if they come back adamant on this letter? 👀

I’ve about 4 weeks left on my 90days and really want an appointment to sort this out 🤦‍♂️ any advice appreciated ✌️

  1. Did she say bank statements aren’t accepted or that a blocked account isn’t accepted? Those aren’t the same thing.

  2. You cannot apply for a D Visa within Germany, D Visas are only issued by German Embassies and Consulates abroad. In Germany, you need to apply for an AE at the ABH. Considering that most offices are overwhelmed in Germany, it is better to apply before moving.

A blocked account should be sufficient, however, the amounts on the website seem too low (I think they used the minimum for students).
