Isn’t that a bit old information? If I remember correctly we changed that law at some point quite recently.
I believe this requirement for legal gender change was removed in April 3rd of this year when the law went into effect, but it seems that only the main article linked there was updated and the human rights page is outdated.
Yes, before trans people had to go through gender affirment surgery (including sterilization) in order to legally change their gender status. It was finally changed last year, though, so Wikipedia is slightly outdated now.
If you’d just read a little bit further, you’d know that paragraph is outdated.

That whole Wikipedia article seems to be very outdated. Most sources and links are from pre 2015.
It was removed as far as I know and referred to the hormones being taken long enough time to render the person infertile, not castration or the like

This is not only old, but also: Nobody has ever been forcibly sterilized in Finland for any reason. This is overdramatization of dumb wording in a law, which assumes you become infertile vie hormone or surgical procedures that are normal for sex change procedures. I’m trans and seeing people still fall for this bait makes me laugh. Read further than wikipedia, anyone with any motive can edit it.

EDIT to smartypants: Yes, 1900, the century of WW2, they were popular everywhere on the planet for any reason. Lets stick to modern examples, since this law was still active barely a year ago.

Yeah the mental disorder part is kinda just that 6ou have to be evaluated by a couple of doctors and psychiatricians to make sure you actually really feel that youre trans and depressed or something because youre in the wrong body
