  1. Make an informative readable info-map of Germany pre-1871 challenge (impossible)

  2. Amazing that Ireland’s population is lower now than it was then.

The potato famine happened 5 years after 1840, and of course a lot of people subsequently left. But incredible the population is still lower.

(All of Ireland north included I’m talking about)

  3. What is this suspicious red border around Germany and Austria?

  4. I looked at this map and wondered why is Switzerland at sea…

  5. Why the borders of Holy Roman Empire? It was nonexistent by then

  6. Greece was occupied for 400 years by ottoman empire until 1821 where the revolution started.Greeks were slaves.

  7. *Austro-Hungarian Empire. For some reason history forgets to mention the actual country that the last living member of the Emire’s ruling dynasty named the heritage belonged to

  8. If France had similar growth as the UK (excluding Eire, so around 20M inhabitants), by now there would have been 120 to 140M inhabitants. 1840 borders don’t even include some territories such as Savoy or Nice.

What is striking here is also Belgium that was more than 2 times more populated than the Netherlands and nowadays it totally reversed.

  9. I actually never realised Austria had basically all the best mountains in the Alps and more. They were the true hikers and mountaineers. Now they only have little of it in comparison

  10. Interesting how Belgium used to have a larger population than the Netherlands. Now it’s the opposite

  11. CRAZY to think the Ottoman empire had a smaller population than France.

  12. Who’s the idiot who colored France in the same color as the water I for real wondered for a few seconds if there was some Pangaea type of land movement in the last 200 years which removed and returned France☠️☠️☠️

  13. Crazy how the netherlands population has gone from 2.8 million to more than 10 million (almost 10 fold increase) while france just doubled.

Sweden and Norway also increased more than 3 fold, spain almost 4 fold, no need to talk about russia or the ottomans

Still dont fully understand how once europes most popoulous country by far could only manage to double its population in almost 200 years, and that is with masses of immigration

  14. Russia… how to manage to kill every gain in human waves in war.

  15. Am I the only one here who would want to travel back in time and modify hisgory so that Germany wins WW2. Just so curious as to see how that would have turned out. Because I know how Russia winning WW2 turned out…

  16. It’s always funny to me to see what Austria used to be and what cute little country Austria is today.

  17. The hell is russian Poland? I know author meant the former territory of Poland under russian control after partitions but calling it “russian Poland” seems strangely insulting

  18. Was Bavaria really that far north-east? Not suggesting that you’re incorrect, just surprised.

  19. Would be interesting to see a comparison with early 1900s.
The european emigration (and famines) were extreme in the late 1800s.
Roughly 1/3 of swedens population left (mostly to the US), Ireland had a 10 year period where about 2million ppl emigrated in that short time.
About 7million germans emigrated and a lot of ppl from other countries too.

  20. I am curious why there is an area in the Austrian Empire labeled “Galicia” as I’ve only seen that used for northwestern Spain and that seems pretty far away

  21. DID YOUR GEOGRAPHY TEACHER NEVER TEACH YOU THAT YOU DON’T USE BLUE TO COLOR A MAP ?????? WHY PICK FOR FRANCE THE SAME COLOR USED FOR OCEANS NOW THE IBERIAN PENINSULA IS AN ISLAND

  22. In comparison:
    – Istanbul population: 15.46 million (Dec 31, 2020)
