That’s a kill shot…
Good job Ukraine 🙂
Navies have always been the resource-gobbling white elephant of second tier powers. And the problem is that, in addition to being VERY expensive, taking LOTS of manpower and time to bring online, they are usually taken out by much cheaper platforms. (Torpedo boats, fighter bombers, submarines, anti-ship missiles)
Without sufficient mass, navies are pretty ineffective all in all. Too expensive to risk losing, and utterly devastating both in terms of material, time, morale and opportunity cost when they are destroyed.
WW2 Germany, Japan, Italy, even the UK with the Repulse and Prince of Wales – all found out that while impressive on paper, warships are pretty devastating things to lose. History is full of aspirational naval powers losing some ships and then deciding that it’s better to leave what’s left in port. And often – they scuttle their own ships when they’re at risk of capture or destruction.
I think they just need to buff it out. Put a little grease to it and it will be good as new.
“I’m sure that’ll buff right out”.
Or
“Tis just a flesh wound”.
Spontaneous deconstruction. Again.
“All incoming missiles were shot down”
Fake news, folks! few sheets of steel and a welder and it’s brand new!
“Everything is going to plan.”
+1
It’s Askold because of all the big holes. 😬

When the conflict started, some US general was asked if the US plans to send ships into the Black sea. He answered – the Black sea is literally the worst place to be for ships in a conflict. They are like sitting ducks on a pond with no way to escape.
And exactly this happened to the Russian Black sea fleet. And I dare to say they will lose more ships before this conflict is over. And while this corvette is fairly inexpensive, it is a nice reminder that the Ukrainians can hit anything they want in Crimea.
