Hi! I’m planning to visit Norway in **early February**, arriving in Oslo. This will be my first trip to the country, and I need some recommendations for the fjord cruise routes.

\- I saw an itinerary that recommends going from Oslo to Flåm, taking the scenic Flåmsbana train, stay for one night, then on the next morning **take the fjord cruise from Flåm to see the Nærøyfjord which ends in Gudvangen, then catch a local bus there that takes us to Voss and take the train to Bergen to arrive in the evening** on the same day.

\- **It’s the** [**Day 4 in this Guide**](https://www.kimkim.com/c/norway-in-winter-oslo-bergen-tromso-10-days)

\- I was wondering if anyone has done this itinerary before and is it worth it. Do the cruises usually arrive on time? After checking the timetables, it seems like the departure times of the bus and trains are very close to one another, so I’m worried if the previous leg was delayed we will miss the next one.

\- The main reason for staying in Flåm is to take the scenic train ride, so my main question is: is it worth it? Or would it be better if we go straight from Oslo to Bergen and do the fjord cruise from there instead? The fjord cruise is on the list of our must go, even though I know the weather conditions might not be as ideal.

Thank you for your input!

  1. Have you researched the train ride scenery in winter? The amount of snow will make the scenery vastly different than in summer (that being, for some, more boring).

Although I did not use this particular one, I will say that local buses are notoriously off schedule, often late, sometimes ahead of time etc. You might want a backup plan.

  2. Its possible to do this itinerary, I’ve done it before. But as mentioned in other posts you always need backup plans when travelling in the norwegian winter. Avoid itinerarys with too many close connections, so dont go further than Bergen or Voss when you do the Flåm leg.

The cruise is on time usually, as its a slow scenic route, it often arrives earlier. There are two bus stops in Gudvangen, one directly at the quay of the ships (1min walk), the other one at the main road, which will result in a 5-10min walk. The bus stop has not any amenities, so it might be annoying to wait there too long, so I’d recommend to take a bus from the quayside, if possible,

Also keep in mind that there are limited schedules on many public bus routes during wintertime. Also road closures can cause diversions and cancellations, so make sure to check Entur and Skyss shortly before the day of travel.
