feel like the shadow home secretary, the mayor of london, and the deputy chairman of the conservative party all baselessly accusing an organisation of something that they didn’t do based on online hearsay doesn’t speak fantastically well to our political and media culture in the UK
I think mods should flag the post on /r/unitedkingdom now as misleading and pin this article as context in that post.
The Met Police dragging them on to the centotaph for a photo op clearly shows how they as a police force are trying to stir up hatred against not just these protesters but also the pro-Palestine protests planed for Saturday 10th by trying to paint the cenotaph as vulnerable.
The Met police have no business trying to dictate whether people should protest or not but seem to be playing into the narrative of right wing politicians to try and ostricise peaceful protesters whether they be JSO or Palestine peace marchers.
Ahh so they are a homogenous group now and act as one. Good to know.
I think part of the problem is that JSO has made such twats of themselves that when I saw this story I believed it, tutted and moved on with my day.
At this point a good chunk of the movement is made up of soft anarchists masquerading as climate activists because they hope it’ll give them some kind of immunity from the consequences of their actions. This is what those methods lead to – its easy for people to believe this story, because honestly I don’t think it’d be entirely out of character.
I think JSO are idiots (albeit mostly just scared shitless idiots that don’t know what else to do), but it took me 10 seconds to read the original article and see that it didn’t report they were actually targeting the cenotaph.
When was the last protest group which actually achieved their aim or objective?
Why were the police more heavy-handed with a slow walk than they were when fireworks were being let off into crowds and people were climbing scaffolding, putting Palestine flags on the war memorials etc?
Ohh dear ohh dear ohh dear, some of the expected users certainly made a fool of themselves in the other thread.
