Also he’s used to fighting lawsuits- obfuscation, making a fuss, causing a distraction- all just to get delays and more delays. I’m sure his lawyers have coached him but his behavior is almost all impulsive.
The “meltdown” was inevitable, since the defense has been dealing with Trump’s mental decline for over a year now. I wouldn’t be surprised if the strategy was to simply allow Trump to have his diatribe then try to file for a mistrial due to either goading the Judge into a confrontation or claiming that Trump was mentally incapable of mounting a rational defense.
Excerpt:
Legal observers criticized the lawyer’s complaints. “Spoken like a lawyer who: (1) doesn’t try cases and (2) doesn’t know how to act in front of a judge,” quipped MSNBC legal analyst Katie Phang on X, formerly Twitter. Georgia State University Law professor Eric Segall mocked Habba’s outrage over being told to sit down. “What a terrible look for this lawyer,” he tweeted. Attorney Bradley Moss cited his own experience being chastized by judges to illustrate that Monday’s exchange was not unusual. “Get over it,”
Trump is a case against multi-generational wealth. He’s a giant child who’s never been held responsible for anything.
Trump is used to being in control. He’s not here. And he also knows he cannot win this case.
So he’s doing what he always does, act like a whiny baby.
Trump thinks he is always the smartest man in the room. He thinks he is the World’s best General, the Best Nuclear Physicist, the best Meteorologist, President, Businessman….. Of course he thinks he knows more than the lawyers and Judges he is coming in contact with.
In the case of Aileen Cannon, he is actually right.
The whole idea is to play victim and make it seem like the justice system is out to get them. Usually it’s just Trump, but looks like even the lawyers are getting in on it now. “Poor us!”
Her unhinged court steps diatribe makes me think she doesn’t realize how bad of a day it was for her and her client. You don’t get to say how you are and aren’t treated in court. It’s literally the judge’s house and they can fine you for having your shoes untied. (It won’t likely hold up on appeal, but they can still do it.)
She’s not his lawyer, she’s one of his PR people
>”‘I’m not here to hear what he has to say,'” Habba quoted the judge as having said about Trump’s meandering tangents. “Then why exactly am I being paid as an attorney?” she asked. “The answer is very clear,” Habba added. “Because [NY Attorney General Letitia James] wants to stand right here like she did this morning and **call my client a liar.**” Habba continued: “And if we don’t stop corruption in courtrooms where attorneys are gagged, where attorneys are not allowed to say what they need to say to protect their clients’ interests, it doesn’t matter what your politics are. But I was told to sit down today. I was yelled at, and I’ve had a judge who is unhinged slamming a table… Let me be very clear, I don’t tolerate that in my life. I’m not going to tolerate it here.”
But….your client is a known and verified liar.
Well he’s only had 8000 other court cases to learn about the legal system, so he’s understandably not good with it yet.
It would be pretty funny if Trump critically wounds his position in life because he insisted on having a lawyer who he could sexually harass
He doesn’t care, only to be seen and heard, that’s what he wants.
Hahaha what!!!??
“I won’t tolerate it”? Dude, it’s a courtroom, it’s the judge who decides what behavior can and can’t be tolerated.
By the way, calling the judge in a freaking bench trial “unhinged” is not a smart legal strategy. I know Trump is already expecting to lose and go after an appeal but that won’t save you from being sanctioned by the court and/or the bar association.
Jesus Christ, how does she even have a law license?
Whenever Alina Habba talks, it is guaranteed BS. She recently claimed that Trump was the most ethical man in America.
She’s angling for a job on Fox News.
Behold, your latest pretty, shrieking, “news” harpy.
How long before she needs her own lawyer?
MAGA – Make Attorneys Get Attorneys
She won’t come out of this in a good condition and she is herself making that more real with the insidiousness of thinking that being a Lawyer makes her special. Lawyers have been told to be quiet and sit down and many other things over many decades.
She is infected by Trump, to think she should get special privileges’. She jumped on this wagon for a pay day, and notoriety… and its going to cost her more than she ever imagined she could lose.
Oh we’re well past “schooling” Trump.
The problem isn’t that he hasn’t been schooled. The problem is that Trump has never faced any meaningful consequences for any of his actions for his entire life. What incentive is there for him to behave any differently?
Let’s all understand that this is ALL by design. They are purposefully acting out and irritating the judge at every chance they can. They already know the case is lost so they are trying to get something they can use to overturn it on appeal and use it as political fodder along the way for Trump. This is a planned act.
Eh, she won’t get paid either 🤷
What does “I’m not going to tolerate it here” mean? I suggest she go and tell that to the judge – he’d be happy,to,give her a nice all expenses paid room for,the weekend.
This is a strategy to paint the judge as unfair with a view to appeal in front of a more favourable judge.
What’s funny is that the judge even asked them to take him to another room and explain the rules, and then they said Trump already understands the rules.
She knows exactly what she’s doing. They’ve lost the trial. The best they can hope for is to bait the judge into punishing them for their antics and give them an excuse to appeal.
The other part is the political performance. She’s banking on Trump supporters not knowing the first thing about courtroom procedure. She’ll win that bet.
>Then why exactly am I being paid as an attorney?
You’re being paid to advise your client about how to get the best possible outcome from the court proceedings. I.e. advise your client to directly answer the questions and not to go off on tangents. Advise him not to talk back to the judge. Advise him not to piss off the trier of fact who will be determining the outcome – in this case, the judge.
And you’re being paid to help you client achieve the best possible outcome. Which means not pissing off the judge yourself.
If you think you’re being paid to make speeches, push your client’s messages out to the public, and highlight the political messages related to your clients campaign aspirations outside of the case– then you aren’t being paid as an attorney. You’re being paid as a publicist or campaign shill.
>They found these three mundane statutes: espionage and the two others.

That’s quite the framing of Top Secret Nuclear documents being stolen from National Archives and the obstruction of justice that followed. She doesn’t just *look* like Ivanka, lol.

He thinks his actions have no consequences.
And largely that has been his experience.

LOL. She thinks she’s going to be paid.
