  1. Doesn’t matter who was at fault, the driver will be a long time recovering from this. 🙁

EDIT: The driver killed someone. Imagine having to live with that, people can be pretty fucking heartless at times.

  2. So it took less than a year for someone to Die since they removed the bike lane there and replaced it with a bus lane ? If this is the same place I think it was. I think someone should be fired for making one of the busy cycle lanes in Dublin into death trap

  3. Not sure if it was a factor here in this case but the obscene amount of bikes, scooters and e-bikes going around with no lights on is shocking. It’s now dark when I go to work and come back from work and each way it’s the same craic. It absolutely infuriates me.

  4. Disappointed, but not surprised, by the comments here. This is extremely sad, but inevitable given the lack of cycling infrastructure and the total disregard that many drivers have for other road users.

May this person rest in peace; my heart goes out to their friends and family. It would be very small consolation, but I hope that this incident helps to bring the issue of cycling infrastructure into closer attention so that similar, avoidable, tragedies can be prevented in future.

  5. Every junction should have a traffic cam on it. The Gardaí shouldn’t be appealing for witnesses or dash cams when something like this happens at a major junction.

Additionally, the cams can also be used to catch those whose idea of red is a suggestion or haven’t a clue what a yellow box within a junction means and thus pay for themselves.

  6. That road is a nightmare. Everyone jumps into the bus lane far too early because of the ridiculous setup of the right lane being a right only lane. Loads of people just continue on straight even when they’re in the right only lane, I have seen many close calls at that junction because of it!

  7. About 1998 I remember walking by Robert Emmet bridge (HaroldsCross Bridge just down from where this ebike accident happened) and seeing the Guards clearing up after an old lady was run over by a Truck turning left at the bridge she’d come alongside it while at the lights and he had no idea and just ran clean over her one of the girls in our office told me what happend. I only saw the guards putting a bike that was almost folded and completely flat in the middle into the boot of their car and the fire brigade washing down all the blood off the road. Once you’re in a blind spot of one of those trucks you might as well be under the truck for all the driver knows.

  8. Someone broke a red light here. Happens pretty often. Lived all of 5 minuts away and its pretty common from drivers going down the canal but also cyclists. going into town. It would feel too tight for a undertake.
