  1. at a superficial level, i would say Kazakhstan is too important for Russia’s uranium supply and its Baikonur space base to let Putin standby and let it fall into unfriendly american or chinese hands.

  2. Made by someone who literally doesn’t know anything about the factions in the country and which one Russia supports lol

  3. On 15 July 2021 the US government published a report on opportunities for US corporations in energy. From the Executive Summary:

While regulatory challenges exist, U.S. companies interested in Kazakhstan can look to the country’s national oil company KazMunaiGaz (KMG) and major international consortia for opportunities in the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors. The Government of Kazakhstan and foreign investors continue to focus heavily on the hydrocarbons sector, which, since 1991, has received approximately 60% of foreign direct investment in Kazakhstan, and constitutes approximately 53% of its export revenue. **Opportunities exist for U.S. companies in virtually every sub-sector associated with oil extraction, processing, and transportation.**

  4. I mean, Nazarbayev is gone now. Seemingly for good. Looks lie Tokayev found a way to clean the house of Nazarbayev loyalists.

  5. If you show this to Putin he will point out that kazakhstan name is wrongly spelled. It should be spelled USSR.

  6. 1. Political cartoons generally suck. They are often stupidly simplistic, i.e omitting any nuance which is vital in understanding most of the world, but also propagandistic.
    2. This subreddit is echo-chambering to a frightening extent. I mean, we get it that Putin supports dictators, but whether the protests in Kazakhstan are (were?) about toppling the dictator (establishing a democracy?) was certainly not clear to me.

  7. There’s much more to it, don’t be so gullible to believe in this simple version the media are deciding it’s going to be the narrative.

One key of reading this is that Tokayev himself is behind the riots. That would mean that nothing will really change for the Kazakh people (not portrayed in the Kamensky take)

  8. I’m sure we will see lots of Kazakhstani refugees now right, right, right? I’m sure the NGOs are lining up to find these people new safe homes.

    Right?

  9. Sorry, this is facile. Kazaks riots are economic in origin. I’d say the last thing Putin wants is this sideshow at a time he is trying to stop NATO yanks literally park up against the Russian border.

That we need is in depth factual reporting. Not neocon memes.

  10. Dude I’m probably the most pro-democracy person I know but this kind of naive, oversimplified, ignorant propaganda make me vomit

  11. People…what the fuck is happening in Kazakhstan?! Did I miss something? I really don’t know anything except that things are fucked up!

  12. There are so many forces in play in Kazachstan right now. Some dating back to soviet unions. Please do not take thess protest lightly, powerful men are dictating their forces in Kazakhstan.
