  1. **Since the early 2000s, with anti-Semitism on the rise amid general indifference, French Jews have felt abandoned by the government and by society. This anxiety has intensified since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.**
Ana (her first name has been changed, as is the case for those mentioned by their first name only) is 38 years old, and this was the first time she had taken part in a demonstration. It was October 9, 2023, in Paris, two days after the Hamas massacre in Israel. Several organizations had called for a march to condemn terrorism and show their support for the Jewish state.
Ana hesitated for a long time before coming. She disagreed with part of the rally’s slogan, which she felt was too political: “Solidarity with Israel.” She doesn’t support the policies of the Israeli government, which is far too right-wing for her. But she loves Israel unconditionally. “And I don’t feel I have the right to,” she said. “I feel I don’t have the right, here in France, to say I’m sad because no one around me wants to hear my grief, because to share my grief, for many, would be to take a stand in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It’s absurd.” It’s as if the victims and hostages of Hamas were “not human beings,” she said, but “only political objects.”
So, to feel “less alone” and express her pain, she finally decided to go to Place Victor-Hugo, in the capital’s 16th arrondissement. “But there aren’t that many of us, and there are only Jews,” she said, sweeping her eyes over the crowd. “There aren’t many people to support us.” There were “only” 16,000 people, according to figures from the Paris Police Prefecture and 20,000 according to the Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France (Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions, CRIF).

This feeling of isolation pervades many citizens of the Jewish faith who feel alone in the face of hatred, alone in the face of fear. Since October 7, more than 1,000 anti-Semitic acts have been recorded in France, and more than 500 people have been arrested, said Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on October 31, speaking to France 2 television. The president of the Consistoire Central (the institution administering Jewish congregations in France), Elie Korchia, condemned a lack of “strong words” in civil society against anti-Semitism, particularly in artistic and athletic circles. And the chief rabbi of France, Haïm Korsia, regretted “a lack of fraternity and empathy.”

  2. So she’s sad that non-Jews didn’t turn out to a march whose stated purpose was to express support for and agreement with Israel. Why would they? So it’s not enough to just not be anti-semitic; we now have to actively support Israel too? Not only is criticism of Israel anti-semitism, not being sufficiently demonstrably pro-Israel is too now.

  3. > She disagreed with part of the rally’s slogan, which she felt was too political: “Solidarity with Israel.” She doesn’t support the policies of the Israeli government, which is far too right-wing for her. But she loves Israel unconditionally.

the cognitive dissonance is real here.

  4. French Jews were already making aliyah in record numbers (largest new community in Israel over the past decade is Francophone) and this will only accelerate the process.

  5. Many Jews will immigrate to Israel after the war, because they feel they aren’t as safe in their countries as they want to.

That’s what many people don’t understand – Jews see Israel mainly as a tool, as a safe haven for them.

And anyways, European politicians chose it’s direction by absorbing many many (MANY) anti-semites, so.. jews don’t have much option either..

  6. As Islamic population rapidly increases in France, Jews will become more isolated like it happened in all middle-eastern/muslim countries over the past century, where Jew population is now close to 0. I believe that soon the religious Muslims will be more than the religious catholics in France, if that’s not the case already.

  7. In Europe, Holocaust memorials are getting burned, Jewish cemeteries are getting destroyed, people are marching on protests organized by ex Hamas chief in London, Jewish woman in France gets stabbed in her home and then attacker draws swastika on her door…. after all this things happening some people will still be confused why Jews want an ethno state with jewish majority

  8. If they will have to emigrate to feel safe I hope our government will help them out to find home in Poland, that being said we already have a housing crisis…

  9. What about the other racism in that country? Why is that a separate group? WWII happened a long time ago. A terrible injustice. 6 million Jews died and 60 million from all around the world died fighting for them. But what of the continued injustice of colonialism? People’s from the former colonies in that country don’t receive the same level of support from the legal system etc. They are not the modern day persecuted, it’s the other way around. Gaslighting heavyweight champions of the world.

  10. “There aren’t many people to support us.”

Now would be a good time to start asking yourself why.

Stop believing the propaganda that the mainstream media forces down your throat every single day, and do your own research.

The western mainstream media tried extremely hard to demonize TikTok, because it’s a medium that the West can’t control. But the amount of truthful information regarding this conflict on that platform is overwhelming.

It takes a couple of seconds to find extremely gore videos of some of the 9000 Palestinian civilians that have been murdered by israel.

It takes a couple of seconds to find israelis glorifying the extermination of Gaza and Palestinians.

It takes a couple of seconds to find israelis singing about “bringing light to ALL non-jews”. Quite a few of these despise Christians and Muslims alike.

You can also do your research on Twitter or right here on reddit, go to r/ AskMiddleEast, plenty of gore videos showing us all the truth.

I condemn Hamas, still now, and I was supporting israel at the start, but after all the shit that i’ve seen the israelis do i just can’t anymore. The israelis are literally exterminating the Palestinians.

  11. Doesn’t surprise me. French streets are either very anti-capitalism/imperialist left or right wing populist. Jews thrive best in a neoliberal business culture.

  12. Unfortunately, it seems that Europe’s Jewish population will have to make Aliyah in order to feel safe and use Israel for its intended purpose further proving why it is necessary to have a Jewish state for Jews. As a Jew, I am saddened to see this. I don’t want to see Jews leaving Europe because they feel unsafe. I want to see Jews and Europeans flourish, build economic growth, trade partnerships, and participate in further scientific research. Sadly even I think it might be a necessity for me as a secular US Jew to make Aliyah to Israel if things become worse. I wish you Europeans well and that you won’t fall victim or prey to Islamists, trying to remove your western values and ideology in place of sharia law.

  13. This thread is full of throwing their hands up and saying well that’s the way it is.

Why does it have to be this way?

  14. As an Asian American that’s how I felt during and after Covid and still a bit today

  15. Well, not only Jews should be concern beeing isolated in France, just look at resent riots, months before october the 7th.

  16. Special thanks to “peaceful religion” and young leftists. Left will destroy our civilization.

  17. French Jews are great and deserve support. Georges Perec alone was incredible.

  18. why are you all letting your politicians do this to you!?

  19. Horrible, but i do wonder how many of them took part of refugees welcome protests in the past

  20. There aren’t many people to support us ? What ?

every single party bar fringe far left parties are pro Israel, there are German politicians openly calling for minorities to pledge allegiance to Israel or be deported. People are being blacklisted and openly doxxed in the US for attending pro Palestine rallies. The Western media are openly calling for mass genocide against Arabs and hate crimes against Arabs are all time high, and it has become the norm that no one even cares.

So tell me what the fuck do you want? Do you want the West to glass every single Arab country or Europe to put Arabs into camps ? Would that be enough for you then to show support ?

  21. Not surprised. France is on the verge having more muslims than christians in their country, no wonder the jews feel so isolated.

  22. This is exactly what Netanyahu wants… and he already made it clear when he came to France after the attack on the “hyper casher” a few years ago . He wants all the Jews of Europe to leave and live in Israel.

  23. I am Jewish from Latin America and I had vacations plannes for Europe in a few months, I cancelled then even though I saved for a year for this trip. I don’t think I’ll ever go to Europe again

  24. 🇮🇱🇺🇦❤️this side has my support… hope europe get better stronger leaders to fight with Evil russia or Some muslims terrorist countries. .. shame that Germany or Francie are fucked up by imigration

  25. Yes, they’re being victimized for belonging to a hated group. I wonder if that gives them sympathy for the Palestinians *being killed* for belonging to a hated group in Israel.

  26. Duh, almost the entirety of the union and the broader west supports israel. If they’re complianing about zionists being called out for war crimes and genocidal rhetoric, then I really don’t care.

If a german whose in a white pride movement started complaining about how their community is Isolated because people call them out on obvious racism, then you too, would not care about their complaints. Rightfully so.
