I suppose we’ll never know, but we do know dogs have been our partners for tens of thousands of years.
In some other parts of the world dogs are food or thought to be disgusting.
That’s the problem with Italy, you can’t dig without stumbling upon some pre-roman artifact, a roman villa, some medieval mosaic etc. It’s seriously impossible to build… Anything that requires going slightly underground and not see the works stopped for years because of this.
