He’s just taking care of business the way a president is supposed to.
Glad for it, but that honestly seems like a low number.
A drop in the bucket, but good nonetheless.
It’s never enough. It’s never perfect. But are we moving forward? Dont let perfect be the enemy of good.
But only for states that voted for him right? Isn’t that how its done?
> President Joe Biden announced Monday a $1.3 billion federal investment to build three new interstate power lines in an effort to upgrade the United States’ outdated electric grid and transition it to clean energy.
>The electric transmission lines will cross through six states: Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Utah and Vermont.
Judging from the number alone, the figure sounds inadequate. From the headline, you would think the entire country’s grid was being upgrade. I guess something is better than nothing.
The utilities always do nothing for their infrastructure, cause billions in damages in fires or inept let it rot choices and we gift them with infrastructure so they dont need to be responsible.
Jackpot. Wall street for these companies will be so happy as they charge whatever they choose and tell us to dig deep.
How about a couple of billion to properly house the homeless?
>Together, the three transmission lines will aim to supply 3.5 additional gigawatts of energy to the U.S. grid, which equates to powering 3 million homes, according to the Department of Energy. The department said the construction of the power lines would create roughly 13,000 new jobs.
For everyone saying “not enough” this is just one piece of many new investments in infrastructure, which is how funding works. I started r/kitchentableissues to bring all the pieces that the larger media is ignoring in one place. Right now the U.S. is investing in broadband, clean energy, safe drinking water, schools, and so many things that will benefit average Americans but 90% of political reporting is talking about the last time Trump farted.
Republicans will fight it tooth and nail….and then proudly pose with the checks that their states receive.
New transmission lines will have to be Federal projects. No individual utility can pay for new ones and all the red tape of states, counties, idiots, and the like will be cut much faster by the Fed.
Excellent!
The same people who say “electric cars can’t go mainstream because we don’t have the infrastructure” will turn around and shit on this.
Texas government: No thanks we’re good, our power grid is best in the nation!
Everywhere but Texas probably.
I can only imagine how republicans will throw a fit over this and accuse Biden of communism or some nonsense.
I just watched my energy bill go up 50%… and I also know our power company is owned, in large part by Berkshire. I think it’s time to make utilities public goods and services. Berkshire is driven by a profit model, which I don’t begrudge them. But power and gas and municipal transportation and health care seem to be best served in a not for profit model
this is what an actual infrastructure week sounds like.
money for trains, money for the powergrid
Biden spent Ten times that much helping Israel turn Palestinian kids into Skeletons.
Biden is the dad who forces you to put the tablet down and eat your fucking vegetables.
And we apparently hate him for it.
I just hear the noise of a toilet flushing when I read this.
Absolutely guaranteed this will do nothing except make the rich more money.
The power grid will never be upgraded unless they start LOSING money, not gaining it
And then the corrupt contractors we hire use that 1.3 billion to put up 20 poles and then ask for more funding.
Texan here. Can we get like…a big extension cord or something?
Ok niw… How about the aging law for president?
Republicans who want to keep money at home and not spent abroad are seething.
Presidential news that doesn’t involve corruption, childish tantrums, threats, lies, and coercion is so refreshing. It’s so draining and depressing that nearly half of the voting public will not only never see this news, but would find a way to be angered by it if that happened.
Very nice. Let’s get out there and vote-thanks in advance
Throwing money at the polls. Good move
Would this give texas and other deregulated grids money which the companies operate and then burden the customer to fix it?
Thanks Joe! I appreciate that you continue to try and improve America. No matter how large or small the project! You have put a lot of effort into infrastructure and quality of life for ALL Americans. Even those that didn’t vote for you! They enjoy the highways, the clean water and improved air quality. They also enjoy being able to find a job regardless of it being a DREAM career. They enjoy the fact that large corporations are being forced to pass some record breaking profits that normally fund jets and yachts for the wealthy, being forced into higher pay and benefits for the workers through their unions. You standing by them means a lot. These are just a couple of examples of why America is improving. We have a long ways to go but we DO appreciate that you are steadily improving us.
So…it’s finally infrastructure week?
Seriously, though…this is a step in the right direction.
Thanks for the pennies, if only Americans were Ukrainians and Israelis. Poor Maui and East Palestine, Ohio need a go fund me and celebrity handouts
For once a billion dollars on the news that isn’t leaving the country
Means nothing unless it creates livable wage jobs for the middle and poor class. The CCC could be brought back while we repair all infrastructure in the USA.. I see all these things the government has money for but it never includes helping out it’s own poor middle class citizens.
Amtrak, power grid….it’s starting to smell like an infrastructure week over here.
Maybe we need another CCC to take on infrastructure repairs.
Good
Meanwhile. Biden and democrats doing the sausage making that Americans want and need while the Circus is out of town
Conservatives will oppose this because they need to argue that the electric grid can’t handle electric cars. Improving the electric grid removes that argument.
How could you all like this guy? He hasn’t even banned an entire religion of people from entering the US, changed the course of a hurricane with a sharpie or given handouts to the 1%?
For OUR country, right?
Imagine what could’ve been done with the $120b sent to Ukraine.
And somehow, stupidly, Republicans will oppose this.
Hell yeah, at least it’s something positive and goals to set. Now tell me what the gop is offering?
