Steve Easterbrook covers this well:

“At no point has there been any attempt to make up lost ground after each failed target. Finally, in terms of absolute greenhouse gas emissions, each target is worse than the previous ones. Shifting the baseline from 1990 to 2005 masks much of this, and shows that successive governments are more interested in optics than serious action on climate change.”
Government missing targets? They would never.
Canada, please put aside your addiction to extractive industries and instead fund more basic science. I say this with love.
Each new immigrant adds about 10 tonnes to our carbon footprint; we added 1,000,000 people this last year. These targets are always based on total output.
Canadas Per Person carbon footprint is decreasing but until the international math changes it will never meet the target.
Canadians have a large carbon foot print and it needs to / is shrinking on a per person basis. Canada cannot however reach the totals goals if we are expected to be the refugee capital of the world.
30 plus years of attempting to slow climate change and havent met a single target. Im sure that’s better then not trying but it’s still depressing
