„White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters that Israel and the United States are friends and do not have to agree on every single issue.“
In other words, they signal Israel to go ahead with it but officially keep supporting a two-state solution to not lose their remaining credibility with the Arab world.
I read Netanyahus statement to mean that they would keep the area secure until they were comfortable that leaving wouldn’t cause another Hamas to form. Not that Israel is absorbing Gaza.
Gaza obviously cannot provide security itself why should they be allowed anymore than post war Japan was? They should expect an occupation force. Its what they wanted.
As an Israeli, we really don’t want to risk soldiers over occupying that place. With that said, is the US suggesting to step in themselves?
What if Hamas or another jihadist group seizes power in Gaza again after the Israeli army leaves?

Western countries should step in and occupy Gaza themselves while providing Israel with security guarantees if they oppose Israeli occupation.
It definitely can’t be Hamas, it can’t be the PA, and it can’t be the UN.
So who will control Gaza? Egypt? Jordan? Let’s just give them away to a different radical regime 👍🏻
We got nothing to look for in Gaza
Realistically, Its going to have to be temporarily occupied in some form by either Israel or the West as the final cells of Hamas are dragged out of hiding and Gazans are deradicalised and given a proper education instead of Hamas’ genocidal propaganda.
Idk how long it will take but after that hopefully Gaza will truly be peaceful, free and prosperous.
What exactly is the alternative? There’s no peaceful democratic government waiting in the wings to replace Hamas. Occupation or Korean DMZ style fortifications seem like the only two options.
the overall cost of occupying gaza outweighs anh benefit.. having settlements is one of Israel’s largest money bleeders as it forces the government to have military presence there to babysit the settlers and they are mostly frowned upon by israelis (non far right israelis, that is). not to mention human lives on both sides and relatively low demand for housing in those areas etc..
the way i understand the statements made, is that the PA would establish itself as the new governing body of gaza, and whike that happens, israel would stay there, and when PA finish their establishment, Fatah woukd take control.
i would e really suprised if this won’t happen because, as i said, if it was possible to get rid of the west bank settlements now, it would probably happen (for comparison, in 2005 when israel disengaged from gaza they needed to relocate 8000 peopld, and it didnt go very smoothly. the west bank settlements have about half a million israeli citizens.. not to mention that disengagement from the west bank would create a small country completely surrounded by another cluntry, which will just be a far worse version of gaza)
If anyone thinks Israel wants to “occupy” Gaza, all I have to say is, you are mad.
The manpower and costs of maintaining military in Gaza is terrible financially for everyone in Israel.
Problem is most countries are hypocrites. No one wants to help the Palestinians physically, only verbally.
Palestinian people need a functioning non-radical government they CANNOT make themselves. A country that is not affiliated with Russia or Iran should step in, build a government and police and re-educate dozens of years of Radical Islamic Propaganda.
Western countries proved their inability to “educate” muslim populations.
It should be Egypt/Jordan/UAE/Saudis, but none of them want anything with Palestinians.
But EVERYONE wants to blame Israel for not having a better solution.
As an Israeli, I hope it doesn’t happen. We pulled out of Gaza 20 years ago because it costed too many lives. I hope we won’t repeat this mistake
So… coalition occupation?
There’s zero chance of no occupation after this.
An occupation by another third power then? A NATO coalition on the invitation of Israel? Get in, occupy the place, rebuild it and create good institutions outside and leave? How about the Turks? Or a joint coalition with other Arab nations? They are Muslim so that might be more acceptable?
>White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters that Israel and the United States are friends and do not have to agree on every single issue.
That may be true at government levels, but it is not extended to U.S. citizens expressing a desire for peace on social media.
Too bad they already forked over all the cash, then
Putting the cart before the horse.
The one comfort in all of this is that it didn’t happen when Trump was in office.
“We’re scared of retaliation from within our own borders by Muslim extremists whom we’ve placated, and we’re also scared of getting drawn in to a war with Iran, Turkey, Russia and China”
Oh, so it’s even on the cards now. Slowly but surely, they’re going to take over all of Gaza in the name of national security for Israel.
Then propose a solution, if you don’t do anything they will occupy it
last time israel left gaza hamas was elected into power, they can´t leave it alone, someone needs to make sure the people have proper elections
meanwhile US still provides military aid and equipment to bomb Gaza… talk about the blatant hypocrisy
Well, it’s not up to US to tell a war torn country what it should or shouldn’t do.
We got up in a whole several countries asses for a few plane attacks. We live in peace and comfort. Nobodies fears their child’s bus being blown up tomorrow or a mine going off at a Starbucks today.
They are going to do what they need to to make sure their citizens are safe from people who “Will keep doing 10/7 until Israel is gone”.
So it’s time the world stops telling the nation that they turned WW2 refugees away from what to do. If we decided we don’t like it and abandon them so be it.
Alway ask yourself, “What would you do if you lived there? What would your emotions be if your children were murders walking the dog. Or your wife was raped and set on fire at her mother’s house?
It’s real easy to sit back and pretend you know what you would do and to think you would be objectively calm and kind when this happens.
And the kicker to it all is…..we actually DO need voices to keep a little Angel on our shoulder so the least amount of innocent people get hurt.
Sovereignty matters.
I approve of it, America would do the same thing is ISIS occupied a territory next it. Same with almost every single country on earth
Yeah, that seems like a really bad idea and I don’t know that Bibi will be in office long enough to actually make it happen anyway.
US does not seem to remember what happened when it stopped occupying Iraq and Afghanistan. You end up with ISIS and the Taliban.
Tough shit. I’m sure Israel opposed the 6 billion dollar grift to Iran courtesy of the White House, but that didn’t stop Biden now did it?
*What* post conflict gaza? They’re gonna level the entire strip at this rate.
