  1. If by victory you mean endless years of open conflict followed by more years of insurgency, sure, victory.

  2. Um nope. You forgetting the whole of Europe! Apart from the USA Europe is pretty good at fighting wars too and are fully committed to a no Russia in Ukraine!

  3. For better or worse, elections and representative governments matched with a press with significant protections from government meddling means:

    >In a democracy, especially an American style democracy, all our dirty laundry is done up front and in public.

This is generally a healthy thing, especially in the long run, but damn if it’s not among the most frustrating and risky approaches in the moment. Even if he doesn’t win, Trump can do a *lot* of damage. And if he does win again…yikes. His odds of winning again are slim but certainly not zero, and the mess between Israel and Hamas at the moment is not (currently) in Biden’s favor.

As context to the last sentence…who am I kidding, I can’t give context in one paragraph. Biden can absolutely hold the *popular* vote, nationally. But popular vote isn’t what determines the presidency, and the *electoral* vote will come down to a handful of states with very narrow margins. And Israel has long been on the short-list of topics you don’t bring up in any depth if you want to stay on good terms with your neighbors. Congress and presidents have a bi-partisan decades-long unwavering support for Israel, but that does *not* translate to the sentiments in the general public. There is no correlation between party or corner, religion, race, income, or anything else that will predict how any given person feels about Israel/Palestine, and I fully expect this kaleidoscope of opinions will come to a head in coming weeks or months. Whether it will favor Biden in electoral terms remains to be seen. That, and a month is a long time in an election cycle — and a year is damn near an eternity; this cycle perhaps to an even greater degree than most.

In other words, there is simply no telling what insane roller coaster the next year will bring to American politics — but the one thing I can promise you is that it will play out painfully and fully in public.

  4. Stupid title.

Even if America betrays the rest of us, Europe and its other allies are in this for the long run.
