Doesn’t this read like he gave himself a serious head injury in the van? The police should have provided some medical assistance, but if he’s smashed his head into the side of the van enough to cause the spit hood to be caked in blood then it’s likely some kind of bleed that killed him overnight.

So man spits at cops, gets spit hood applied, hits his own head against a cell van and removes his spit hood. Has his head held down as he’s walking so he can’t spit again.
Dies hours after leaving custody presumably from a brain bleed sustained from hitting his own head.
So the only use of force applied here was a spit hood and holding the males head downwards as he was walking so he couldn’t spit at the officers again. Seems an entirely reasonable and proportionate use of force and this is an unfortunate case of a self inflicted injury.
