  1. And the opposition appear to miss the main point, which is that 11k is a ridiculous amount to charge for 2 weeks of ipad data.

  2. Roaming? The thing that was never going to be reintroduced post-Brexit?

  3. It’s easy to dump on the guy, but it was almost certainly not his job to swap the SIM in his official parliamentary iPad.

  4. Looked at Google maps perhaps? That’s cost people hundreds of pounds

  5. I’m getting “I’m on a £90k salary, can you show me how to make my emails bigger?” vibe.

  6. This is what happens when you give thick people a device they don’t understand.

Give him an old phone from 2000.

  7. I remember having someone reporting to me who got a £2k bill on their phone from Serbia or somewhere round there ( 10 years ago, can’t remember but on the EU border ) and he got an absolute roasting. This is far worse – that’s the best part of £750 a day !! Absolutely clueless twat and he’s supposed to be in charge of important stuff.

  8. As someone who works in IT and did some consulting for U.K. Gov a few years ago, I can categorically state most MP’s just treat parliamentary devices supplied to them as personal devices given freely without any consequence.

Hilariously most of them are so technically illiterate they have no idea how to even use Bluetooth in their Range Rovers.

We’re in 2023 now – if you want to watch Captain Marvel or The Crown on your iPad when in Morocco, buy one yourself with enough storage and download it before you leave when on wifi. Plus do the research and find an e-sim provider and buy an e-sim for local data when you’re there. But both of those require some ‘technical intelligence’ of which they have none.

I used to work for a mobile network, so I have a personal SIM in my phone that was out of contract 6+ years ago when I left, but I’ve still got ex-staff discount & good roaming (US, Europe, Australia/NZ etc) as part of it – so now I just buy a replacement phone outright and keep the sim ticking along… and even I have had to buy e-sims for Maldives & Nepal which are outside my plan.

I never roam unless it’s free – there are now always much cheaper/smarter ways to do it.

  9. Which Netflix show do we think he was binge watching on his work iPad instead of doing work?

  10. Alternative headline: government procurement contract for mobile services is shit

  11. >Mr Matheson has agreed to pay £3,000 towards the bill from his expenses budget.

How is that him ‘paying’ it?

  12. Streaming gay bear fetish porno in 8k resolution is apparently not cheap.
