  1. It was mainly because they were conscripts and not volunteer members. They were seen as freedom fighters fighting against soviet’s rather than ss members.
    If I’m right then many other Eastern Europe conscripts had same faith and many of them later served in US or with other countries because there were no homeland to return to.

    Edit: I agree with lord_voldemar comment. Using term “freedom fighters” is not correct in here, as nazi’s cared as little about our freedom as soviet’s.
