  1. The former president of Partido Popular (PP) in Catalonia and founder of VOX, Alejo Vidal-Quadras, aged 78, was shot on Núñez de Balboa street in Madrid around 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday. He was shot by a person who was a passenger on a large motorcycle. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the mandibular area with an entry and exit hole. He has been transferred in serious condition to the Hospital.

The former popular deputy was walking alone on the road when a motorcycle with two occupants approached him. The person who was in the back seat and was wearing a helmet shot him at close range at number 40 Núñez de Balboa Street, in the Madrid district of Salamanca. They then fled in a prohibited direction along Hermosilla Street.

Several residents of the area were the first to attend to the victim and then two police officers arrived and tried to plug the wound.

He has been stabilized and transferred in serious condition to the La Princesa Hospital. He is stable and conscious, according to medical sources, and his life is not in danger.

The National Police has taken over the investigation and the nature of the attack is unknown. The Municipal Police have cordoned off the area.

Vidal-Quadras is a fundamental figure of the Spanish right in recent decades. He was president of Partido Popular in Catalonia from 1991 to 1996 and MEP from 1999 to 2014, during which time he also held the position of vice president of the European Parliament.

His difficult relationship with the Genoa leadership, then led by Mariano Rajoy, as a consequence of The policies in relation to the Catalan independence movement and the end of ETA led him to break with the Popular Party and be part of the founding team of Vox in 2014, a party of which he was its first president.

A year later he resigned from re-election after appearing as the head of the list for the 2014 European elections and not obtaining representation. He was replaced by Santiago Abascal, leader of Vox to date. Soon he distanced himself from the party.

  2. Political violence ramping up, money down for the average person, taxes being used to support non citizens. Cultural clash in the streets. Yeah we have all the ingredients for mass civil violence. Strap in this is only the start.

  3. And people are making up stuff in their minds.

The police are investigating and it has a huge chance of being unrelated to public politics.

And then pointing at a tweet as if he did not post 2-3 tweets per day with the same line of thought.

    Edit: From the same newspaper

The modus operandi of the shooting, according to sources consulted by this newspaper, would reinforce the thesis that behind the crime there could be a collection office, as hitmen are known in crime slang, groups of hired killers who work for the organized crime.

  4. This what happens after decades of fear-mongering by the media and left wingers about how right wingers are evil and it’s ok to attack them

  5. He is a retired extremist far right politician. But probably this murder attempt is not related to his political career but some private stuff we don’t know.
