  1. Americans are adjusting their holiday shopping this year, including skipping gifts and spending less in response to the economy, [according to a new survey by the personal finance website WalletHub.](https://wallethub.com/blog/holiday-shopping-survey/53828)

The website on Thursday released the results of a nationally representative online survey of nearly 250 respondents, which found that about 34% of Americans plan to forgo gifts this year due to inflation. About 28% said they plan to spend less this holiday shopping season than they did last year.

“It’s not entirely surprising that many Americans are adjusting their holiday spending plans due to inflation,” WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe told The Messenger. “Additionally, the findings suggest that many are resorting to financial coping strategies, such as applying for new credit cards or delaying debt payments, highlighting individuals’ financial constraints.”

The survey follows a report last week by the National Retail Federation that projected that U.S. retail sales in November and December will grow between 3% and 4% to an all-time high of at least $957.3 billion, despite more cautious spending from consumers. Last year’s holiday sales rose 5.4% over 2021 to $929.5 billion.

  2. That title is a click bait, no doubt its going to be lower on spending this year, that being said 1 in 3 Americans skipping gifts and 28% saying they will spend less is in no world the same fucking thing.

  3. Idk about skipping gifts but def reducing the mid winter travels like hotels and holiday light things. And the ole iPhone 11 gonna have to make it a few more years.

  4. Just told my children… No gifts this year. Food over plastic toys
