Won’t stop people from stupidly saying ‘who’s the source’ every time casualty numbers come up though.
Duh.
I mean is it really that hard to believe, a month of bombing a tiny area full of people results in a high death toll?
I find it surprising how people even try to argue against this. Like are these bombs just landing on thin air?
Isn’t it the same things Israeli officials said? That the death tolls might be unreliable since Israel also bombed the tunnels?
Let’s wait for the monsters to come deny this or just blame Hamas and refuse to accept Israel has even a modicum of complicity in this outcome.
I wonder who are the comments who said hamas is just making it up now US official reports it is not just lies right?
Lets be serious. If Israel dropped a 2,000 lb bomb on your house it would take weeks to find some of your body parts. I don’t think them much care about the collateral damage.
It’s what happened in Mosul. Based on what happened in Mosul in 2017, it is most likely double. In Mosul, they reported 5000, but a year after the conflict ended it was estimated 10,000 were killed.
I mean there was a recent report saying that the IDF believed that the death toll was 2x the Hamas reported numbers, so I believe it, especially because the US isn’t going to leak this shit without knowing that Israel would go nuts if it was unsubstantiated.
The two questions are, as always, what is the ratio of civilians to militants killed? And what is a tolerable ratio?
Way to misquote with that headline.
She said “In this period of conflict and conditions of war, it is very difficult for any of us to assess what the rate of casualties are,” she said during a Wednesday hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “We think they’re very high, frankly, and it could be that they’re even higher than are being cited.”
How you go from basically “we have no idea” to “likely higher than being reported”?!
This is like me saying “I could even win the lottery today” to be same as “I am likely to win the lottery today”. Nope.
Plus of course she also said Hamas is intermingling casualties for Hamas fighters and civilians but lets leave that bit out.
Anyone with a brain knows that. No matter how precise israel bombs, Gazans outnumber Hamas 100-1, the vast amounts of casualties will unfortunately be civilians, which is why you see so many videos of kids and moms under rubble. Sadly we won’t know the real count until after the war and the rubble is cleared
Yeah no shit two million people in a small area unable to leave having whole building collapse around them I bet the real death toll is twice as high as what’s being reported currently
Considering that they are bombing in an area were 1000000 people lived their normal lives until a month ago …
I have no doubt they’ll be digging bodies/remains out of the rubble for months. I also expect there will be people whose remains are never found. Its tragic.
Of course it’s going to be higher. The direct way to count deaths is to count bodies, but lots of people sheltering in basements got pulverized by bunker-busting JDAMs so there’s nothing to count. At that point all you can do is talk to survivors to figure out who is missing, but if entire families are vaporized then there’s nobody to ask. Also, a lot of people got blown into small pieces, with lots of pieces missing, so you can’t really count arms and legs and divide by two or four to figure out how many people died. Even when bodies are mostly intact many have to go into mass graves as quickly as possible to avoid the sanitary problems of rotting corpses, such as flies and scavengers that can spread diseases. All of this, of course, ignores details like establishing identities of those killed, so having a record of 100 corpses in a mass grave may matter for statistical reasons, knowing whose family members were buried where is not that important.
It’s a uniquely awful situation where both sides of the conflict are complicit in the death of civilians. It’s bad enough for the populace of a city that’s under attack by an advancing army but it’s even worse when the supposed defenders of the city are also seemingly giving zero thought towards safeguarding the civilians who live there.
It’s almost like a messed up 21st Century version of the Battle of Alesia where you have civilians trapped between two opposing forces and essentially left to die.
I remember just last week when people were saying that the numbers in Gaza were inflated.
Wow you mean 20k+ bombs get dropped on an area the size of Las Vegas and ots likely significantly more than 10k people are likely dead from that? No shit
Oooh boy imagine the “the numbers are innaccurate” crowd dealing with this one
I would think so but worldnews would have you believe only a handful have died and street all killed by Hamas.
38 of my extended family were killed (cousins, second cousins and their families), one of my close friends had 28 of his family killed (uncles, aunts, cousins, and their families). The civilian death toll is truly unknown at this point but easily in the 10s of thousands. There’s still thousands missing under the ruble. Whole neighborhoods reek of decaying bodies
If “Hamas must go” because they killed 1400 innocent people, what does this say about the Israeli Government?
Well yeah….hard to count bodies in the middle of a war.
Hamas is going to twist numbers and unless they are important Israel doesn’t care how many Hamas the kill.
