Hear me out, could this formation work?

  1. Please excuse me for using FM to show the formation, I couldn’t find a good site to use 😭

    Here’s my line of reasoning:

    1. Provides a natural 3-2 build up structure as Balde/Cancelo provide width
    2. Defensive stability with 3 centrebacks and 2 ball-retaining holding midfielders
    3. Maintains Xavi’s box midfield, allowing us to dominate with 4 midfielders
    4. We have Felix/Gundo/Pedri/Raphinha to play as the two AMs, giving a lot of room for rotation

    Some downsides:

    1. Centerback and wingback depth
    2. Where does Lamine Yamal play? Possibly too young right now to consistently play in the middle of the park
    3. Gavi probably doesn’t have the nous to play in a double pivot *yet*, could switch him with Romeu for some stability–allowing Frenkie to roam further. Damn, we really need a DM

Overall, it has a lot of similarities with Mourinho’s Roma and Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen. Very attacking wingbacks.

On a side note, I think we will get exposed vs. Porto if we keep playing a 4-3-3 with Gundo/Romeu as the single pivot. In league it’s probably fine, but in European competitions it just won’t cut it.
