I need to send some extremely important documents internationally. It looks like DHL is the best way to do this. I’m a bit confused about the packaging though. When looking at the [DHL.de](https://DHL.de) website, it seems that they only offer small boxes for international shipping, when I really only need a sturdy envelope like this [https://imgur.com/a/m7KAo2D](https://imgur.com/a/m7KAo2D) Is this not offered for international shipping from within Germany? Or can it easily be found at all parcelshops and postal retail outlets?

  1. For *documents* (but *not* for goods) you can also use an international letter. Look at [https://www.deutschepost.de/de/b/briefe-ins-ausland.html](https://www.deutschepost.de/de/b/briefe-ins-ausland.html) for prices by size/weight. For a 3,50€ surcharge, you can make it a registered letter (“Einschreiben”), and for another 3,50€ plus 2€ per 100€ of value you can have it insured (“Wertbrief”).

For *Päckchen* and *Paket*, the parcel needs to be stackable, otherwise it counts as *Sperrgut* (bulky goods). The envelope you linked is made of cardboard, something like that should work if the contents aren’t too weirdly shaped (unlikely in the case of documents).

The usual way is to buy box/envelope and postage separately. Boxes with pre-paid postage are available, but AFAIK only for domestic destinations. Many DHL/Post stores sell packaging materials, but you can just as well reuse an envelope you received (just make sure the old address label is removed or completely covered) or buy them in a supermarket, stationery store, or variety store.

Keep in mind that *Päckchen* comes without tracking and insurance!

  2. If they are that important why not use a courier service for documents?
On the other had you can get these (not in yellow) at many shops, try a Postfiliale but supermarkets and ships with a lot of paper should have them too.
