If Pro-Palestine marchers want to attack war memorials then just let them honestly, and if they don’t they don’t. Let them show their true face good or bad without all this hyperbolic talk of a “ring of steel” needed around a war memorial.
If we are truly at the point where we need that then maybe the war memorials should just be moved out of the city they no longer have any connection to.
Performative policing?
They apparently don’t have the budget to address actual crime, how is paying 1000 officers overtime for a confected political outrage that doesn’t exist justified?
Protesting against war and genocide in palestine on the day we remember a world war ended seems fairly sensible to me. I don’t think there has been any real plausability about defacing the cenotaph other than cruella braverman saying it. Their protest route isn’t even near it.
“Ring of steel”? I’m confused – is it the British Army bombing Gaza? Can someone explain?
Just to check: we never, ever, ever commemorated Armistice Day before, did we? It was always Rememberance Sunday, and the Saturday was just a Saturday, right?
Sir Rowley covering his backside it seems. Not prepared to put his money where his mouth is😅
If it gets damaged then it’s game over for him.
Any one protesting Pro Palestine should be taken directly to Gaza and see what things are like there. 99% would suddenly change their mind when they saw what life would be like under Hamas leadership.
But there won’t be any “remembrance disruption”. The Palestinian March is hours after.
Headlines trying to stir the pot again. SHOCK!
What a pantomime. The UK really has turned into a joke of a country.
Most of that is because Braverman has stoked up the Tory base and the police now need to keep an eye on all the far-right, BNP types who are going to flood into London for a piss up and to ‘defend’ monuments. Can’t wait to see them all doing Nazi salutes at the police in front of Churchill’s statue and completely missing the irony…again!
I’m quite convinced that there will be a few idiots for whom the idea of defacing a memorial didn’t even occur to them until this media frenzy.
I mean very important figures will be there. Including King Charles? Maybe he’s paying extra. And his son. Or sons or idk.
The days going to be a war zone. That’s what one guy said down the local. He’s single and has a dog.
All of this could have been avoided if they said, next weekend please.
Will that stop the counter protest against the NF who plan to march to lay a poppy wreath
We wouldn’t want any of those pro-peace marches to disrupt Armistice Day…
The article is from LBC whose only given source is the mail online.
The very final paragraph states (correctly) that the march is scheduled to start after the ceremony and the route does not go near the cenotaph.
So a march calling for the same thing that the armistice is all about (peace), which has been planned not to interfere with the remembrance day event, which is heavily policed anyway due to all the political leaders and royals being there, needs extra police to arrest all the troublemakers who have been very few and far between at the almost daily marches since Israel’s assault on Gaza. According to the daily mail.
Anyone else find it strange that it appears this country is more concerned with the people who died in wars 80 years ago than the people who are going to be killed in them tomorrow?
I wonder how long we’re going to be beholden to those who died for our freedoms a century ago? I appreciate the sacrifices made, truly and deeply, but I find our national obsession with wars long ago very strange.
Before long not a single living person will remember WWII – at that point will be we able to continue to mark their sacrifices without it being treated with almost religious fervour?
Will there ever be a time that we can care more about the wars happening today and tomorrow than those before any of us were born?
What a waste of time. The marchers are about a mile away and on a different day to the Remembrance Sunday events.
Braverman is simply stirring up hatred..
Especially when it comes to pallywood and the demonstrations
A good time to go commit regular crime elsewhere then. The front line will be strapped for numbers.
