After being made to feel old by a previous poster not recognizing a 4 star petrol pump, does anyone remember 2 star? When did we stop using it and why. We never had a car- my dad rode a motorcycle and would fill it with 2 star ( he was a cheapskate).

Yes, and also 5 star. There was also ICI petrol and their 5 star wasn’t as good, it was more like a normal 4 star.
And you could add “shots” that were supposed to improve engine running. Who remembers having those and did they work?
Yeah, used to run my Motocross bike on 2 star when there wasn’t enough of the good stuff left in my dad’s car to syphon out.
I used to go to a garage in Sidley and I am pretty damn sure I used to put 2 star in my FS1E (possibly a different bike) and the attendant (attendant!) had this big syringe that was full of 2 stroke oil and he would put in the correct ratio of oil in there too.
When I did French at school in the late 1980s whoever wrote the text books was VERY concerned that we were able to fill up a moped with the right type of petrol. Seemed to be a thing that kept cropping up for the whole five years.
Is this different from the Regular / Premium petrol we have now?
We used to get 3 or 4 star when I was younger
When I was a lad the bloke next door used to have a Land River, defender I think, from what I remember of the shape. Pretty sure that ran on 2 star, once I was out with him when he filled up and I’m sure the filler cap was under the drivers seat, although this was decades ago so I could be misremembering!
