Customs duty from CHF 150 instead of CHF 300 – shopping tourism could become more expensive | The Swiss population spends over CHF 8 billion a year shopping abroad. Now Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter wants to put the brakes on shopping tourism by lowering the tax-free limit.

That’s 150 francs per family member, totally reasonable for normal daily shopping.
Anyway according to a study of Le Temps, shopping in France is no longer worth the savings for most products bar meat and milks due to the high inflation suffered by our neighbours
PLR want only a free market when their having benefits only for themselves..
When I order something online I have to pay taxes from CHF 65.00 onwards.
Not quite sure why the cheapskates living close to the border should get preferential treatment.
Respectfully, she can go fuck herself. Maybe she should try fixing the monopoly on the Swiss market that Migros and Coop have. They’re both extremely overpriced for what they offer, and their customer service is going to absolute shit. And on top of that, the variety in the average stores suuuuucks! For instance, for frozen veggies, you can choose between, bean, peas, or brunoise. That’s just depressing! No thanks! I prefer to shop for my food on the other side of the border, where I actually have options.
Title makes it seem like a given. This is so far only the finance minister demanding it. This is far and away from being done
good luck Karin cause I will vote against it as will the majority of people close to the border
I’mma sign a referendum – we should work on abolishing this limit instead on doubeling down on it.
Free trade only for big corporations? Absolute nonsense – protectionism never worked out long term.
People are selfish pricks. Do any of you who are against the proposal are working for German salaries? I guess not?
People getting squeezed, but corporations getting an easier run of it.
“Hmmm what to do? Maybe we should squeeze the people more!!!”
I’ve not spent a single cent on shopping abroad, but I hate seeing a government be so ideologically disinterested in improving things for the population.
I mean I doubt this is going to withstand a Referendum, but imo shopping abroad has become very unattractive anyway because of higher inflation in our neighboring countries. It mainly still pays off when you go shopping for cosmetics or meat products.
I love when the self-declared party of the free market and small government starts doing shit like this. Kindly fuck off, I hope she and Cassis get the boot in December.
So I have to compete with 660 million EU citizens for my job and salary, but when I try to shop abroad suddenly the free market is a bad thing? Our country is run by corporations and you can’t tell me otherwise.
So people will drive now twice per week to shop abroad?
