I think this is one of the saddest ever Irish photos. Shows three generations of a family outside a makeshift tent in Alexander Street, Waterford, in 1924.

Think about it, this is how bad it was BEFORE FF and FG spent a century running the country into the ground. Imagine how bad it is now.
They probably got that pic taken cos they had a lean to. Majority didn’t have anything like that.
The girl looks quite happy lol
Most of us are just a few generations from this level of poverty. As much as we give out about the state of the country, we’ve done a lot with the place in the space of 100 years.
And at no point did they think to stop rawdoggin
When you think about it its insane that we still have people living in the streets with all the wealth there is nowadays. So sad.
Thank God for U.S. investment.
Any time I see an old photo like this it always jumps out at me straight away how old all the people look. Just a sign of the times back then really. Same thing with the pictures of people from WW1.
It’s kinda eerie that even the children sometimes look like they have an adults face, and the adults here are mad again, the couple probably aren’t even 35 and the grandmother is probably only in her 50s or something.
Now today you’ve the like of me at 26 that looks about 16 after I shave. It’s just very creepy how basically poverty itself can visibly age you so drastically.
2023 people in Ireland are living in tents, cars wherever they can. Sad but true
