‘The Better Health Smoking campaign said that 4.9% of teenagers whose parents smoke have taken up smoking, whereas only 1.2% of teenagers whose parents do not smoke have taken up smoking.’
Lol. Same for children of drinking parents? Same for children of politicians? What else? Tks
Wasn’t this type of study done ~30 years ago? What a half arsed article.
Didn’t need to be told that. The first cigarettes I had were stolen from my parents out of curiosity.
Children of parents who do [insert pretty much anything here] are more likely to do the same.
This is a good thing. More smokers means less people living in to their 70s or 80s. We could all use a little Thanos logic in our lives.
Not really sure what to think of this.
All anecdotal, of course, but both my parents were heavy smokers. My dad did quit in the end, and my mum reduced her usage, but before either of those things happened I had already developed a severe opposition to smoking.
It irritated me (physically and mentally) so much that I’d exaggerate how much I coughed whenever they smoked and I even drove my mother to have to smoke outside of *her own house* whenever I was home.
And I don’t ever recall thinking their smoking was cool, though I do have vague recollections of being intrigued by it.
I know it’s irrational because people drink with their parents but I always find it so weird even as an adult when I see friends going out for a cig with their mum, couldn’t imagine asking my mum if she wanted to go outside for a smoke
Child of a parent who smoked here. I admittedly have smoked, but only socially on occasion, and it never became a habit or addiction.
My mum and nan used to smoke and gossip and I can’t help but feel nostalgic when I get a smell of cigs
