SNP won’t sit by while the Tories and Labour allow carnage to unfold in Gaza, says Stephen Flynn

  1. “Allow” like the war between Israel and Palestine hangs in the balance of what Labour, the SNP, and even the Tories think or vote to condemn. For one, Israel really only gives a fuck about the US, and 2, a ceasefire takes 2 sides. Hamas put out a video the other day talking about how it will never be over, and they’ll re-create Oct 7th again and again.

  2. Theyll write a sternly worded letter to the Israeli consulate, published in the National, and thensend a wee prayer that this helps their poll ratings.

  3. To all the “what can the UK even do” lot:

    – the UK is one of 5 privileged countries to have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Can call votes, veto’s etc.

    – We have one of, if not the largest financial hub in the world, London ( flip flops between London and New York.)

    – we have a fair whack of hard power (as in military) we are one of a handful of nations with a blue water navy (can operate across the globe) something few can do. The Chinese and Russians struggle.

    – largest military in the EU (or second? It’s us or France)

    – we have a lot of soft power too(cultural, political etc)

    – we hold some sway with the US

    – we hold some sway over the commonwealth

    – we have one of the largest economies on the planet (5/6th depending on if our glorious PM has decided to tank it this week)

To say we have no options is frankly silly. We could sanction them, we could put political pressure on them or their allies (US etc), we could threaten to intervene militarily(see Bosnia) to prevent a genocide.

This goes for both Israel or Hamas.

Alternatively we could also try using the carrot instead of the stick. Point is, plenty of options.

  4. What do the SNP want to do, bring it to Scotland?? Do they have a magic wand to tell Hamas terrorists from from non- terrorist Palestinian citizens? Even other Arab countries aren’t confident.

Israel are not about to change their policy, whatever the outside world do, and neither are Hamas. The best thing is to send aid: but not in the forms that Hamas will simply steal to find their own lifestyle and militia.

  5. I’m sure both Israel and Hamas will of course respect the SNP’s plan and commit to it.
Everyone in the middle East is crying out for SNP leadership here.

  6. What do they expect Labour and Torys have the power to do in Gaza? We have no cards to play in the conflict

  7. Surprises me how much the SNP will fight for this.

In my eyes I’d think issues within Scotland and about Scottish independence would be more important to them.

Not to say they’d have to stay silent but I’d rather like to see the SNP put this effort towards Scotland & her independence
