Hi everyone! Soo long story short my phone was stolen on the 28th of October on Oxford street. I immediately remote locked and initiated an erase of all data. Knowing how common it is I knew police wouldn’t investigate it but took my shot and reported it anyway. Find my iPhone showed it had traveled to Harringey and shortly after it was turned off. On the 11th of November I started receiving scam immessages to my iCloud email (see below)- nothing threatening just trying to get me to remove my iPhone from my iCloud so they can unlock and use it. I ignored it, even though i kept receiving multiple immessages daily even after blocking the senders(different email each time). Today, messages turned threatening, telling me they knew where I lived and they were going to come to my flat to ra*e and m*rder me. Two videos were also sent: first was a women performing sexual acts on a man and second was a man showing off multiple guns. Being a female, living alone, I was very scared and immediately called the non emergency police number. Police were dispatched and after taking a statement and investigating the text we all agreed that, although very alarming, it was a generic message- not addressed to me nor no evidence that they actually had my address. They were reassuring and I felt quite safe tbh. Anyway, after they left I did some digging and found that this was in fact a very common message(literally copied and pasted) used my thieves. My phones current location is in China and when I looked through various Reddit posts it appears to be the same building where others who had their phones stolen also tracked their phones to. I’m posting this because I don’t want anyone else to feel the horror I felt when I received this text. Do not fall for it and DO NOT remove your phone from your iCloud- that’s what they want. This is clearly a very large scale organised crime.

Thanks for sharing that really sucks!
This gets posted in r/scams regularly. Sorry you lost your phone. Leave it locked and let them have a useless paperweight.
Hard knock life, the thieves and scammers are assholes
This happened to my work colleague earlier this year. Her phone was stolen near Tottenham Court Road and she didn’t delete her iCloud and she tracked it to Hackney. Then they started sending her threatening messages, including the same message it sounds they sent to you with video of a guy in a ski mask showing off guns. She also tracked it to China. So yeah it sounds like a video they probably downloaded off the internet and send it to people to try to scare them so that they can sell your phone.
Feels good using a Nokia 2720.
