Biden admin weighs proposing cuts to U.S. troops in Eastern Europe

  1. Interesting, as I thought these talks would amount to nothing else but both sides strongly reiterating their positions.

However, I think this is the wrong thing to focus on. The invasion of Ukraine is being prepared because of the situation in Ukraine first and foremost, and that’s what needs to be addressed with utmost urgency.

Discussions about force posture in say the Baltics are interesting and worth having, but at this point they seem more like an attempt to distract or offer Moscow an off ramp it isn’t seeking.

  2. Does the US have troops in Poland and the Baltics apart from the NATO enhanced forward presence mission?

  3. The US doesn’t even have all that many troops in EE. The vast majority are in Italy, UK, and Germany.

  4. I’m not surprised, it’s the cycle that repeats in USA. Republican presidents want to strengthen position in Eastern Europe, then democrat presidents win elections, backtrack on promises of previous administration and seek a reset with Russia.

Last time it was like this – Bush administration wanted missile defence system in Eastern Europe, it was almost certain, preliminary deals have been signed. Then Obama came, he cancelled everything and went for reset and appeasement of Russia which ended with invasion of Ukraine. They’re doing it again.

  5. Biden = Chamberlain + Dementia

honestly fuck the US & Western Europe, the Eastern European countries should start a joint Nuclear weapons program to never have to rely on some of the shittiest allies in history ever again.
