  1. >*But Spillman, who described one of her five children as “a proud member of LGBTQ community,” managed to link Bryce to Scalia’s conservative, anti-LGBTQ+ legacy, as well as nationwide efforts to inject a far-right agenda onto local school boards.*

Good. I’m so glad that these Moms for Liberty book banners and the fascism they ride in on are being rejected!

  2. As hateful as they are, they clam up when they are faced with people’s lives they are actually impacting. There is no good defense for being an asshole for no reason.

  3. Fuck the book banners. I live in a rural Kansas school district just south of Lawrence. Three school board candidates took money from 1776 PAC, calling their opponents “far-left extremists” in a non-partisan race. Bastids were all easily defeated. In a big fuck you, this crowd is now 0-5 in the last two elections.

  4. Why would a woman whose kids are all in private school want to be on the public school board?

    Edit:rhetorical

  5. I wonder why she/her supporters would think of *Pope v. Illinois*:

“It’s useless to argue about taste, and even more useless to litigate it.”

Antonin himself sure forgot in his declining years…

  6. I was proud to vote for spillman. She’ll do a great job

  7. many congratulations to ms. spillman fighting for all people’s rights

  8. Lol, that’s gotta sting. I bet she considered this school board position a given stepping stone to bigger things.

  9. I await the NYT’s David Brooks’ article lamenting the left’s power hungry advances into school board takeovers and whining about Democrats dragging Scalia’s corpse through the streets.

  10. Thank god. This is a good sign going forward especially for school elections. Pretty gross how people attacked her family and 6 year old trans child.

  11. Based on article, the daughter didn’t have a specific agenda and voters just assumed it matched the GOP of banning books and LQBTQ. Which her father would have happily supported.

However her kids are all in private school so not clear what her true agenda is since whatever decisions she made wouldn’t impact her or her kids which seems like a huge reason to not vote for her, even ignoring politics of it all.

  12. I read defeats as defends and I was so confused as to whose side this subreddit was even on

  13. How about a rule that you need to have children actually **in** the school system to run for an elected position?

  14. It should be no surprise to anyone why this news is pleasing to mine ears.
