I think it’s Eddie Howe but agree to disagree.
Aston Villa are gonna backdoor the title a-la Leicester 2016 and I’m all for it
emery is class
If you forget about Unai at Arsenal and the easy comparison to Arteta, maybe he has a point. But as usual I think he’s just saying shit for headlines. Carragher is an idiot.
Is he better than De Zerbi? Pochetino? Ange? I don’t know.

You can make an argument for most things. Doesn’t make them correct.
I could argue that Gary Neville is an unbiased man of unmatched quality and an al round great guy. Sure, I’d be wrong. But half the fun of arguing is chatting absolute bollocks and trying to defend it.
It’s difficult to say that. You obviously have two at the top, which is Klopp and Pep.
After them, in the second tier, you would have the likes of Howe, Emery, Arteta, Poch, RDZ. It’s difficult to say any of these are categorically better than the others.
I put a tenner on Villa to finish in the top 2 this season, they had a great finish to previous season and odds at 100/1 were pretty generous. I don’t expect anything to come of it but cash out could be nice if they can maintain some of this form up until Christmas.
I think he’s achieving great things at Villa and the team is a genuine threat at the moment; they have a good core set of players.
Never will, but would love to see Pep in Emery’s place and see where he’d have the Villa squad in the table.
Why 3rd? I wont say hes behind Dyche tho could be second.
Is this the same man that had Arsenal conceding 30+ shots to Watford and lost 6-1 to Barcelona in one of the biggest bottle jobs in football history.
Dunno if I’d class him 3rd best but it’s good to see him doing well after deluded arsenal fans ran him out of the club because they couldn’t accept their place.
It depends on how you judge managers.
For a club the size of Villa, I think there is a really strong argument for Emery being the third best manager.
However, the comparison with Arteta is too easy to make and it doesn’t seem he could rebuild a club in his image like Arteta has done and like United need to do
Hard to say.
Ange has won stacks of trophies wherever he’s been but always get “it’s a weak league” thrown at him, he’s also had it hardest to get noticed being Australian.
Ange has also gone to every club he has been at and completely turned the culture around. Yes, we have lost 2 after having a chunk of our first team decimated in one game (through ill discipline and bad luck) but we lost one of our greatest ever players at the start of the season and the shift and culture change has been seismic.
Pochettino will always have a monkey on his back until he wins a trophy in a competitive competition.
Arteta is not in the conversation but will be if he, unfortunately, wins the league.
RDZ, Howe – good managers but a step down.
Thing is he seems excellent at the level he’s at but then when you want him to take the step to leading a champions league team pushing for titles he doesn’t quite have the skillset for it.
He’s seemingly quite happy moulding Villa into Sevilla 2.0 and I would imagine given the financial strength of teams above them most Villa fans will be more than happy with that.
If in 5 years they’re looking back and they’ve won the conference/Europa and had some high table finishes I think that would be pretty good for them.
He’s not wrong.
Fck me winning Europa leagues 3 in a row clearly means fck all judging by these comments… Who knew it was so easy…
He’s certainly the third most decorated manager in the league and this season he’s probably got the most over performing team so far now Spurs have hit their bump.
That being said, his record at a big club in the premier league wasn’t great. Decent night watchman job for one season, marred by bad decisions that didn’t pay off, followed by completely losing the dressing room and getting fired by a club who are not known for pulling the trigger on managers quickly.
Basically he’s doing really well with Villa and has all the credentials to be considered a top manager, but the most important factor would be that no club in the top 3 would take him right now.
Arsenal never trusted him with the keys and their football management was unstable at that time which derailed Emery’s tenure.
Villa seem to trust in him and he’s delivering. Kudos!
Respect
He’s perfect for Villa. An upper mid-table side with good financial strength, high ambitions in relation to their pedigree, and not too much pressure is exactly what Emery thrives with.
So after Klopp and Pep? I mean sure but I would put Arteta above him tbh
I guess that makes sense
Pep Klopp Emery Arteta Ange ETH
