Why would nuclear be energy be green? Isn’t there a lot of waste that they still don’t really know how to get rid of? Also the stuff that happens when there’s an accident. I’m confused
We have to define what “green” means. This political tic-tac is ridicolous.
Dear Germany, is the sun’s energy ‘green’?
If Germany disagrees, which is fine, will they stop buying nuclear generated electric power from France? Asking for a friend
It boils down to the question, if an source of energy is “green”. Which, in fact, is a quite stupid question, because “green” is a colour (or color on the other side of the pond).
Nuclear is def. very, very low CO2 (not free from CO2, though).
Is it good to have nuclear waste rotting around somewhere for an indefinite time? Certainly not.
Do current reactor designs create nuclear waste? Certainly.
Will uranium mining be good to the environment? Possibly not.
Would an “impossible” nuclear accident make lots of problems? Probably.
But neither are natural gas plants “green”. But they also create less CO2 (and other nasty stuff) compared to old lignite fired plants.
>Germany and France have “agreed to disagree” on the EU’s move to label nuclear energy as green, German Europe Minister Anna Luehrmann said Friday, denying any conflict between the two European giants on the issue.
Agreeing to disagree on something doesn’t mean that there isn’t a conflict. It just means that you aren’t going to fight over the conflicting positions.
Both France and Germany have had some bad experiences with nukes.
The nightmare scenario is Russian, with not only Chernobyl but also what they did in the former East Germany, with their giant mountains of nuclear waste. Can’t blame the Germans for feeling bad about the past.
France and Japan have a common sickness – they build nuclear plants designed for a certain lifetime, but then they keep running them for decades more because of money.
The common theme in nuclear danger is improper management, not bad science.
Spineless and submissive government who always obey to German orders, just like in 1940. Sigh
Time to set up European Climate Friendly Energy Union, start funding nuclear via it. Useless to use EU as a tool for energy funding and everything when there’s these idiots messing around.
Also perhaps abolish the EU energy market and organize a better one via that ECFEU.
