  1. Well that’s a simple mistake, you forget to put a 1 in front of that 9 and then it’s too late to fix it.

  2. Key detail beyond the clickbait headline:

    >The Georgian property, 59A Inchicore Road, Dublin 8, had been renovated before being sold on to the Peter McVerry Trust at a significant mark-up on the price.

  3. One thing I can promise you, is that every single one of these decisions was made at the top and went across Pat’s desk.

The Trust has been in serious trouble for a few years and just about keeping afloat under the surface. Absolutely mental things going on.

They have had DRASTIC frontline staff shortages for years. (like most charity services in fairness). They tried to recruit in just about every country across Europe and beyond, and eventually just said fuck it… And overpaid massively for agency staff to fill the holes.

Agency staff that don’t have the same level of training or accountability that the Trust would want and expect for frontline workers.

At the same time, even with drastic shortages, they kept opening new services with literally no way to staff them. The problem got worse and worse.

With the management structure and ethos within the orginisation, everything has to be approved by a senior manager. I.e Most things went to the top. This meant that even simple decisions took an age to make. While at the same time, some other decisions (like hiring previously unheard of people for high paid not necessarily required positions that didn’t exist a few weeks ago) were made without consultation of any internal departments.

The spending was completely out of whack as well. With priority given to some very unusual places.
For example, one year, funding was so tight that the “Christmas bonus” to the entire staff was a “personal message from Pat” (A one off video message he recorded and mailed to “all”) And a scented candle… A fucking candle.

The vast vast majority of the staff at the PVMT give it their absolute all. They really believe in the cause and they all go so far above and beyond it’s not funny. Extra hours are standard, late nights and unpaid work is pretty normal across the board. Some of the services managers basically lived in the services to try and cover the drastic shortfall in staffing. Keep in mind that this is these peoples full time paid jobs. They are PAYE employees and this is their only income. These people give their lives to the Trust all year. They go above and beyond every single day because they believe in the cause and want to help people.. And they got given a fucking €12 candle. It was such a smack in the face. They shouldn’t have bothered with anything rather than something that insulting.

While… At the same time as the candle was being sent? Pat was OK-ing the redevelopment of some offices in the city centre. New canteen, new board rooms, pretty much complete refit, (complete with 60 inch TV’s, projectors, the works).

Oh, and most of the construction and retrofits that are approved and paid for across the Trust, were done by construction services owned by friends of Pat.

Pat Doyle saw exactly what was happening and where things were going. That’s absolutely why he stepped down before it all hit the fan.
He wasn’t even working full time for his last year or so. He was being paid to work full time, but he was doing a part time college course during work hours.

The Staff at the Trust really believe in what they are doing. Peter himself really believes in what he is doing. The Trust itself has helped so many people. The hostels, counselling, drug addiction services, family services, housing programmes.. They are all so good and so helpful and so essential to the people involved.

It’s just that the fucking thing was run badly by an idiot with a mentality of “it’s too big to fail, the government would have to step in”.

  4. There is more to come. They have housed very questionable characters next to vulnerable people, with no regard for safety.

One would hope the new powers signed into law yesterday will put a stop to it and they will be forced to disclose when they are housing predators.

  5. Who did the reno and was it with Peter McVerry Trust in mind?
