This is how: [https://www.extremetech.com/cars/headlight-hackers-are-stealing-cars-via-can-interference](https://www.extremetech.com/cars/headlight-hackers-are-stealing-cars-via-can-interference)
Carmakers seem to have forgotten that they need computer security as well as physical security these days.
Similar case in the USA of Kias and Hyundais not being fitted with any security devices since about 2020, you could walk up and steal one with as little as a screwdriver and a USB cable. Something like two thirds of all cars stolen in some cities were Kias and Hyundais this year, to the point you couldn’t even get them insured with some companies.
Not going to lie, that looks interesting as fuck.
Might be a dumb question but, what do people do with cars they’ve nicked? I would’ve thought they’re quite traceable now, and not easy to just fit fake plates.

Clever.
Since when did a headlight need be a networked device? It needs to illuminate some bulbs and in really modern ones have a feed from some sensor to position oncoming traffic.
I wouldn’t wish for encryption either. That simply means that any part you buy without the dealer markup won’t work.
