Makar was a very open, kind, and intelligent person. As a child, he played professional hockey as part of a team, which is why many media outlets and the [Ukrainian Hockey Federation](https://fhu.com.ua/news/u-boyah-za-ukrayinu-polig-24-richnyj-hokeyist-makar-yerofeyev/) recently wrote about him. He loved computer games, reading books, and tea ceremonies. After the ninth grade, he went to study at the Ivan Bohun Military Lyceum in Kyiv and received his higher military education in Odesa, a true intelligence officer who was highly respected among his subordinates because he led by example. He always preferred to be on the front line with the soldiers instead of sitting in the headquarters. He was never afraid and always went into battle, even when his commanders forbade it. He could not stand seeing his subordinates die on the screen of the stream and hearing how they were wounded on the radio, he always went into battle with them.

Makar was on the frontline from the very beginning of the full-scale war, he defended Kharkiv, pushing the enemy back from Chuhuiv, commanded units of the Bakaliysk-Kupyansk operation and liberated Kupyansk, got wounded and escaped from the hospital, fought near Khromove, stopped the Wagnerites, and organized assaults near Avdiivka. A true warrior and stoic.

Makar was killed when he was leading newly recruited soldiers into battle personally. While retreating, he and his comrades were carrying a wounded soldier, but Makar did not leave him until the end, despite the shelling. He was killed by a mortar shell. Makar was 24 years old.

Makar’s parents say they don’t need help but say it would be better to donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Makar would have liked that.

  1. Thanks for Humanizing the Ukrainians struggle for freedom. Comments for many here seem like they are virtual Romans witnessing a battle in an arena cheering on their favorite team. I suspect if they understood the existential nature for the Ukrainians and the west some might put their game controllers down and go feed the elderly, drive an Ambulance, or go hump ammo for a 155 Battery.

  2. I’m sorry for your loss. He sounds like a man with a lot of heart and like someone who will be dearly missed. A heartfelt thank you to Makar for his deeds and his sacrifice.
