> Obviously ‘Oppenheimer’ has been quite a ride for us and now it is time for me to release a home version of the film. I’ve been working very hard on it for months,” Nolan said. “I’m known for my love of theatrical and put my whole life into that, but the truth is, the way the film goes out at home is equally important.”
> “‘The Dark Knight’ was one of the first films where we formatted it specially for Blu-ray release because it was a new form at the time,” he continued. “And in the case of ‘Oppenheimer,’ we put a lot of care and attention into the Blu-ray version […] and trying to translate the photography and the sound, putting that into the digital realm with a version you can buy and own at home and put on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come steal it from you.”
Streaming services can’t steal from you what you never owned to begin with…

While I won’t be buying it, I do hope sales are decent. I don’t really want to see blurays go away completely.
Ooooh buy oppenheimer on blu ray ooooo you really want to give me money oooooo 🤏⏱️
First they’re coming for our guns, then our 4K Oppenheimer steelbooks. Q was right!!!!
You got it Chris
Is it possible to get it on VHS? 🤔
I’d rather purchase it digitally but thanks
I preordered it on Apple TV.
Buy the LaserDisc so you can watch it forever!
He is not the most committed director to home release. While some put a tone of bonuses, Nolan is a bit… dry
I think the only blu ray player I have in my house is an Xbox one and it isn’t even plugged in to anything.
James Woods, executive producer. So, nah.
I do appreciate special features like the making of and director’s commentary. I feel like they’re great for movie buffs and aspiring actors and directors to learn what goes into making a movie.
I see the point he’s making and he’s not necessarily wrong, but he’s also coming off a bit “old man screaming at cloud.”
8-tracks, cassettes, CD, VHS, DVD, etc…every format has its day and is then replaced by the next generation. Trying to swim against that current is a losing battle. It sucks if you’re heavily invested in an old form of media, but that’s the way it goes. It’s 2023. I know you’re passionate about making films on 80s and 90s technology and formats, but you’re gonna get left behind eventually. Streaming isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and when it does, it’s gonna be replaced by something newer, it’s not gonna go backwards to Blu-ray. Stop hanging on to the hottest technology of 2008 and figure out a way to apply your talents to the modern medium.
I mean, it’s not a lie
What about supplements / bonus materials ? iirc Nolan has been stingy to sparse with them in the past ~ Oppenheimer could (and should) present an excellent opportunity for additional items both related to the film and the historic period it relates… just saying.
After all the hype about this movie, including so many threads in my local Reddits for seeing it in which particular imax format, I finally saw the movie this weekend. More than a third of the movie is shot in a small meeting room. And the trinity scene was bafflingly pedestrian. It looked like closeups of a bonfire.
Not trying to shit on it but this movie completely missed me, and I’m a fan of the genre and subject matter. The casting and acting were great, but that’s about it. I feel like we’re all praising a naked emperor with this one. And I wish that wasn’t the case because we need more quality films tackling serious subjects like this.
I like some of his films but Chris Nolan really is a douche, who needs to get over himself.
