Europeans are the most sensitive people in the world when it comes to protecting nature and environmental standards. These are European values.
But Europeans are not even aware of that.
In international forums, for example on pesticides and chemical safety, the countries who take the most extreme pro-public health positions are always the Europeans. Asians, South-Americans and the Anglos (Australia, Canada, USA) are pro big-business. If a substance doesn’t kill you immediately, they will generally support it and european countries will protest.
Europeans should be aware their values are not shared by many other nations, including in Asia, Brazil and USA. I read the Financial Times. Americans, Indonesians, and Brazilians are whining. They believe everything Europe does is *”hidden protectionism”*.
*”Why are they so fucking obsessed about brazilian forests? Why is France talking about deforestation and carbon ? This is another conspiracy to protect the french meat industry”*
The idea that *europeans genuinely care* about environmental norms doesn’t cross their mind.
Well from Prabowo, a kind of Dutertre in its own style, quite not surprising tbh
December 2024, new EU rules will kick in preventing the import of soy, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, timber, rubber and beef unless companies can prove they aren’t driving deforestation abroad. Indonesia, which is home to a third of the world’s rainforests but has seen much of it vanish due to deforestation, of which palm oil plantations are a major driver, has heavily criticized the new EU legislation, arguing that it will erect trade barriers.
The sollution is to invest in eastern Poland
OK.
My cat thinks he won’t need me if he can open his food himself.
Good, your not in Europe anyways. Go back to party China where you belong!
The act of killing(2012), one of the best documentaries i saw, on the mass killings in Indonesia.
And funny they dont need us, because they are buying Italian,UK/DK frigates and German based designed subs…..
Plus French Rafales while not paying for their Korean share on the KF-21
So much for Asian collaboration.
Oh look, a politico article stirring a storm out of nothing again.
china rubbing its hands…
Indonesia is doing the right thing. You cannot get a better deal if you do not try and the current deals are shit.
Free west papua
To be fair, the EU thinks of Indonesia only marginally less than Romania, which does not amount to much. I can see why people over there would go “Fuck this!”.
Prabowo talking about human rights is quite laughable. The former son in law of Indonesia ‘s infamous dictator Soeharto, when he was in the army he led an army that massacred 1000’s in East Timor and tortured and killed at will in Indonesia.
Having said that Indonesia’s share of trade with Europe has dwindled compared with China, India, or Asia at large. Its huge reserves of copper and nickel in particular stand it in good stead to take a much stronger seat at the table.
Nothing concrete is happening either on the forestry front where Indonesia has strategic weight.

I read that “presidential fortuneteller” …
No one knows will be the next president so why so triggered with what he says.
Well…globalism was a mistake anyway.
ok
What’s with all these upset comments stating that Europe thinks it rules the world because of this policy lmao
How is enacting legislation to protect the environment bad? This literally helps ensure the EU plays no part in deforestation.
The USE doesn’t, like so many other historical systems, solely run on exploitation. I can see a world that is led by my European brothers in thought and ideals only. Democracy doesn’t win because it’s everyones favorite system – and for most people it is – Democracy wins because it is the best system in output of good ideas and in output of intelligent people. Democracy doesn’t rule anything – it seeks to make everyone the ruler. Do you want to rule yourself? Join us now. It is hard to start but oncr you are in it is very easy to leave.
What people here are saying is that europe is a big bad guy for exploiting recources for centuries. However when the EU is trying to lessen exploitation they are also in the wrong.

You all should be more mad at the [constant mass shootings](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Indonesia) Indonesia commits on its own people.
