  3. There’s a perfectly good hockey + skating rink in Dundalk that has been closed for years, and it makes me sad every time I pass it

  4. God I remember the ice skating rink in Phibsboro and there used to be one in Dolphins Barn as well I think.

  5. The lack of some basic things around this island always really saddens me. At least Dundonald exists for me to fall on my arse.

  11. Oh my god how are we going to survive. Maybe talk to your local TD and see if a nice brown envelope can get one in your area that we can pay for in our taxes and then shut down for n the next year or 2

  13. I might be wrong but I remember being told that in the 40’s and 50’s people would ice skate in Stephen’s Green during the winters which were much colder back then. Can anyone confirm?

  14. I don’t ice skate, but I love rollerskating. Been sad since the last roller rink closed in Cork (RIP Supernova). Now I have to travel 1h30m to Limerick to scratch that itch.

  15. I’ve never attempted ice skating in my life. I’ve never even tried roller skating. Do you think its a good idea to watch some youtube videos and try hitting one of the ice rinks this winter? Or does it require much more practise and someone to guide you in person?

  16. This isn’t proof we need a permeant one. We’ve had an all year round one and it closed because not enough us it.

  20. Hi OP, I love your enthusiasm. If I understand your map correctly, it seems to say we have one rink per 450k people during peak season. I’m not really sure a reasonable person would conclude there is demand for a permanent ice rink from that dataset.

  21. Slightly offtopic: is there a place you can learn how to ice skate as an adult, or is it trivial and I should just go give it a shot?
