Being a young person in Ireland is INCREDIBLY stressful and given our current government, there doesn’t seem to be much hope for change until they’re gone.
There’s a reason so many of us have left. It’s anecdotal but I’d say in terms of me and general mates from my hometown, there’s more of us emigrated than still at home in our childhood bedrooms.
I mean this with all respect but be very careful what you say to someone you might think needs help. The mind is a very fragile thing as well as powerful. I have seen people pushed over the edge and their lives fall into complete turmoil over not getting the adequate help and response to their issue. Some people genuinely think that there is no one else in the world who feels or thinks like they do and the wrong advise, even if it is helpful, can make these people feel validated in thinking like this.
That is the true meaning of helplessness which indefinitely leads to hopelessness. The sickest people are sometimes the ones who are convinced they dont need help. I mean if you are broke you know the solution must be money, if you are homeless you want a place to stay but if your thinking is off and you don’t know how to fix it then its a bigger kettle of fish. We are incredibly resilient as people but in the right mind.
It doesn’t mean you are happy all the time or stoic in nature. Whatever a person might be going through, it’s a great thing to intervene and help but you should be very careful with the words that come out of your mouth because there are people who have studied this phenomenon for years who will tell you that it’s something you can’t put a plaster over and expect to resolve over night. It’s a very varied topic and it’s not something you can prepare for someone doing.
You’ve a few options to die in Ireland, get murdered by someone in town on a night out, die of the cold (homelessness), die of natural causes (renting your whole life), die by drugs or die by your own hand. Pick your poison.
