Switzerland to legalise cannabis use and cultivation

  1. > the bill, which will allow the production, cultivation, trade and consumption of cannabis

This is pretty huge, since legalizing production and trade also has the potential to put a dent into the profits of organized crime.

I think that’s a first in Europe, no?

  2. Title is ~~complete clickbait~~ misinformation.

People started to discuss the topic… again (happens every 10ish years or so).

Nothing at all has been definitely decided yet.

Edit: u/Thue is right. It’s misinformation, not just clickbait. And it’s not just the title, it’s the article itself, too.

    The start of the article:

    >Switzerland has moved closer to a legal cannabis market,…

is correct. After that, they claim that the bill has been passed and that it’s a done deal. That’s not true. The source linked in the article (Blick) clearly says so.

  3. >Ziel ist es, den Schwarzmarkt durch die Aufhebung der Prohibition auszutrocknen, wie es im Initiativtext heisst. Stattdessen sollen Regeln zur Besteuerung und Bewerbung sowie zum Anbau für den persönlichen Gebrauch von Cannabis etabliert werden.

    Translates to:

*The aim is to dry up the black market by lifting prohibition, as the initiative text states. Instead, rules on taxation and advertising as well as cultivation for personal use of cannabis are to be established.*

    Translates to:

    Mafia 0 : 1 SwissTaxes

  4. Here in the Netherlands we were so progressive with our policys about cannabis, but we far behind now compare to the rest of the world. Hope the politiek see the light and legalize and fully decriminalise the use and cultivation of it. But i think first one of the 56 mayor that signed the petition have to jump of the second rooms balcony to make a point.

  5. I doubt that’s ever gonna happen. It’s wrong. The Swiss know it. They’re some of the smartest people.

They’re even moving closer to banning tobacco.

  6. This is a huge win for many parties. For smokers – cheaper weed. For pharmaceutical and medical companies – ability to use CBD/THC to create new drugs to help people. That’s amazing!

  7. Reading up on this, the source (“Blick”) isn’t exactly a reliable newspaper; however, the facts are as follows:

    * A parliamentary initiative has been submitted to legalize cannabis, which was signed by 40 MP’s
    * Both Houses of Parliament have forwarded that initiative to their respective public health committees.
    * The public health committees have both voted to recommend that legalization should move forward.
    * No plenary vote on the parliamentary initiative has taken place yet in either House.
    * Consequently, no bill to legalize cannabis has as-of-yet been introduced, let alone passed.
    * Should such a bill pass (which will take a while), it will almost certainly be subject to a referendum, which it may or may not pass.

The relevant information can be found [here](https://www.parlament.ch/fr/ratsbetrieb/suche-curia-vista/geschaeft?AffairId=20200473).

Edit: To clarify further, the parliamentary initiative basically says “a bill should be drafted and introduced to legalize and regulate cannabis”. If this initiative passes, that doesn’t mean cannabis is legal at that point, it means that such a bill will be drafted and voted on.

  8. Come oooon… Finland is missing such a huge opportunity to take over the market with this. Farming has always been hard and not really profitable in Finland but Hemp grows everywhere!
