  1. Well done Simey, we’re all proud of you! X

    Seriously though this is great.

  2. We now can control mass, no longer shall we be restricted to weekend, mass any day of the week, bwahahahahahahaha

  3. As long as they don’t let Simon near the super collider.

  4. This is actually fairly cool. I genuinely forgot CERN was a thing.

  5. This is great, refreshing to see a positive news story on here that’s government related.

  6. This was a thing in 1990 when I was in college. I believe Albania was the only other European CERN non member back then. Basically cutting Ireland out of all the research opportunities.

The minister at the time told the academic community that “Ireland has no interest in nuclear power” when approached about Ireland joining.

  7. Holy crap, it has happened. Seriously they have been talking about this for decades but it is only associate membership not full membership. I think the cost are around €1.3 a year for 5 years. Full membership is a lot more around 10 million a year. There are other associations that they were looking to join I wonder if they did I missed it.

Edit my figures above are wrong is €1.9 million a year for associate membership.

Still also edit: it took so fucking long for this to happen, the benefits were apparent years ago and for not very much money. I am actually surprised it happened. But it was so fucking slow in happening.

Final edit: not going to applaud this minimum effort from the government but the fact it takes so long for something like this to happen along established routes is shameful. Malta is a full member of CERN. Pakistan is an associate member. This is a good thing but I am actually pissed off now.

  8. Watch out Simon, Steins;Gate tried to warn us about those folks and their plans for world domination.

  9. Does this mean we might have nuclear power plants in the future?

  10. Not so fast lads. This just gives us access to their “world wide web” protocol. I predict it will be amazing and good for all mankind. We get the particle accelerator access later.
