  1. With that line up I was disappointed to not see an elephant

  2. Is that a donkey at 0:31? As if it was not absurd enough with cavalry… Can we please give him a participation trophy?

  3. Curious why you specified “Horse Cavalry” in the title when there are a bunch of Donkeys and Camels mixed in there. I know it’s a dated meme, but…1870 called; they want their militia back.

  4. Arise, arise, Riders of Dafur! spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now, ride!!!

  5. i hope they don’t “ride” into battle, the ponies deserve better.

  6. Ride now, ride now, ride!
Ride for ruin, and the world’s ending!
    Death!
    DEATH!
    DEATH!!!

  7. I feel like NCD will take this clip very reasonably and won’t make 3,000 memes of horseback riders

  8. Holy shit, never in my lifetime did I think to see horse Calvary

  9. First time I’ve seen multiple donkeys and a mule included in the cavalry

  10. “Mom, can we pick up a Ride of the Rohirrim?”

“No, we have Ride of the Rohirrim at home.”

Ride of the Rohirrim at home:

  11. Horses have remained a major feature of warfare in Sudan. Remember that the RSF who are currently fighting a civil war against the government are a successor force to the *janjaweed*, which means Devils on Horseback. The *janjaweed* were the main perpetrators of the genocide in Darfur in the 2000s, and there are plenty of images of them on [horses](https://sudanreeves.org/2014/04/22/the-infamous-janjaweed-militia-now-recycled-into-the-rapid-response-forces/) and [camels](https://martinplaut.com/2022/09/09/italy-trains-janjaweed-cutthroats-but-parliament-doesnt-know-africa-express-revelations-made-in-the-senate/) during that time.

Horses are also a common feature of the broader herder-pastoralist conflicts across the continent. There have always been tensions between nomadic herder populations and settled farming populations, but decreased water availability has increased the violence of the clashes between these modes of living in Africa.

  12. Makes me wish we had gopros during the Sioux wars. Imagine Custer running around with a GoPro getting shot with arrows and repeating rifle rounds.
