***Photo above*** *- if you lived here, you’d be homeless by now. Buyers paid for these upfront, but construction has stopped.*
Today’s link (at bottom) is a doozy. It immediately triggers the question . . . why is China so good at building apartments, but so bad democracy and human rights? And why is America so bad at both?
First off America CAN’T send millions of people to China. They’d refuse to go. Something about language difficulties, lack of human rights, and an oppressive regimented society. Which is probably why America has so many homeless, to begin with. They arrive here by the millions every year, fleeing oppressive societies. Some people are even fleeing China for Canada and the USA and other democracies. The only folks trying to sneak INTO China are detainees from North Korea. China is using America’s former “catch and don’t release” program to send North Korean migrants back to their government, for “questioning”. In any case – whether someone is in a North Korean gulag, a Chinese Uighur detention camp, or a Texas migrant housing camp, they are NOT officially homeless. They are “in custody”.
**I didn’t say America had 20 million homeless**. But we have A LOT. The Department of Homeland BS – an official government agency (it’s not, I made it up) – says America had 583,000 homeless people in May 2023. **This is a real, and oddly specific, government statistic, no?** Were free water bottles and Narcan (anti drug seizure) kits dropped off as part of the mini-census? I’m pretty sure America has more than 1 million homeless – possibly as many as 2 or 3 million. At least it looks that way when you sneak a peek at places like NYC, which welcomed 100,000 new migrants in 2023 alone. But NYC migrants are not homeless – a lot of them get put up in hotels which are now no longer suitable for traveling salesmen. In any case, NYC is coming up with migrant numbers so high, it casts immediate doubt on the Department of Homeland BS and its alternative reality universe.
How many people snuck into the USA so far this year? 2.8 million, according to several sources. Does that include the 500,000 Venezuelans who flew to Canada, and then crossed into the USA at the largest undefended border planet Earth? Um . .. probably not. Those Venezuelans might be part of a “humanitarian” program. In any case, we don’t talk about it. We (in America) are too busy gawking at pictures of unfinished Chinese skyscrapers, and tsk tsking. China is no doubt fronting pictures of fentanyl overdoses by the homeless in Chinatown, USA. Fast fact – Chinese dictator Xi is meeting with Biden this week in San Francisco. Which side do you think is going to win the propaganda war of photos after this wraps up? No matter where you live, the media mostly goes with its own government’s version of reality.
**Speaking of numbers people can’t agree on – is housing affordable in America?** Do you think that if 20 million apartments (like in China) appeared suddenly, there’d be takers? Not just people living in tents in those blue, red, and white cities. But people crashing in their mother’s and brother’s basements, on living room sofas, squatting in empty vacation homes, “camping” in state and national parks? Like actress Tori Spelling and her 5 kids, recently photographed spending months in a used Winnebago at a California “nature area”. Geese Louise – if formerly high flying celebrities and influencers need a place to crash, how the heck can we possibly get a grip on the true size of this problem? In any case, Tori and her kids are probably going to need more than a 2 bedroom/1 bath unit with a Chinese style mini-fridge and cooktop.
Is this going to be another one of those columns where people respond with “*eff you, moron !*” . . . or “*how would YOU fix it, Miss Smarty pants?”* Sorry, I don’t have quick fixes. But I want to be fair and balanced. If you think China has the answer, read the link at bottom and take note that those 20 million unfinished apartments are already PRE-SOLD. And 20 million buyers are probably going to lose everything, because those units won’t be completed. And if you think America is doing just fine, it’s probably because you and I already have an apartment, a car, and affordable heat. We have no right to gloat, and winter is coming.
I’m just sayin’ . . .

You do not understand homelessness in America. We have exact stats because these are people who use some sort of program or assistance to find a job, use a shelter or get food. We count those numbers. A very small percentage use no programs at all because they dip in to homelessness and pop back out without a program.
The *vast majority* of homeless people are homeless for short periods. A matter of weeks. A very small portion are long term or permanently homeless.
“I didn’t say America had 20 million homeless”, then in the title has literally “America has 20 million homeless”. Reddit at its finest.
China also has a lot of homeless people.
“Why is China so good at building apartments…”
Go look up Evergrande and what they did, and what has happened to them. It pretty much sums up your picture, which was taken in China. Government money being used to prop up unneeded housing projects.
I am sure people who invest their money building apartments would love to give them to homeless people so they can lose all their money!!!
This is a terrible idea for so many reasons, but the one many of you might not be thinking about is that:
– some of the people in that group might have relations with people who sell illegal recreational drugs—no prejudice, just that 20 million is a lot of people, so statistically that might happen, and also half of them are there on drug-related charges
– China has an extensive chemical manufacturing industry…
Wait, guys, you knew about the Opium Wars and how bitter the Chinese are about it and…?
Cool.
Except, now, we have to listen to guys from Chicago explain how getting a country hooked up on fentanyl and dying at 35 is increasing good because it increases GDP when you take into account the amount of sales?
Told you that was a lousy idea…
I love how you cite a source and then just say you don’t believe it because you don’t think it’s right based on your anecdotal experience of seeing homeless people.
There is no source that says it’s anything even remotely close to 20 million.
Just take the L
Mofo wants to deport people that are homeless. We could take care of everyone easily if we wanted too, but America really doesn’t care about poor people they just love to worship celebrities.
China also faces a decline in population. Xi definitely has to come up with how to use those ghost towns.
I read the first 2 sentences and realized this guy is troll posting
Doesn’t America have more vacant homes than homeless?
