Trump hates him because he voted to certify Biden’s election win. He also was the first in congress to endorse Gov Desantis. So with the MAGA base against him all this is performative to save his seat.
Roy’s a contributor to the current state of the GOP, but he’s got a point here:

For as long as they’ve served as republicans in an elected position they understood that they got there by aligning with a party that needed the support of racists, bigots, misogynists, and any number of other awful groups in order to win elections.
