Beware the false prophets of NHS “privatisation”

  1. While the discussion of it as “privatisation” is, I think, silly because it confused the issue, this report is from one of those Thatcheresque right wing think tanks with secret funders.

The more useful discussion is why the government keeps pushing reorgs and outsourcing and would the public tolerate it if it was made clearer? And what’s their end goal?

Edit: not entirely secret, they did take donations from British American Tobacco

  2. **Anything written by the IEA can be immediately seen as complete and utter bollocks**

The IEA is a right wing think tank. Set up specifically to (amongst other things) pursue the privatisation of the NHS for the direct profit of its donors.

Iain Duncan Smith is on the board of the IEA.

  3. It’s being privatised by the back door.

Which is why people have been complaining for years about having to pay for parking, or pay to watch TV, or how the canteen has been outsourced, or the cleaners have been outsourced, or the fact that you can spend over a year on the waiting list, or just pay your way to get to the front.

  4. He’s saying that she’s been banging the same drum for thirty years. Well this is a response to the article in which she refers to “the last three decades” of policy “chipping away” at NHS values so she seems pretty consistent on the face of it. He doesn’t actually address anything she’s ever written, just points out how long she’s been doing it.
