One of the biggest scams going round. For someone who lives in a flat on their own the standing charge for electric is 1/4 of my electric bill. The standing charge for gas is almost half my gas bill on non-winter months.
Meanwhile someone in a 6 bed house with a heated pool is paying the same standing charges as me. How does that make any sense?
Just combine it into the unit price. It makes up over 50% of my annual bill with no way to reduce it which is ridiculous.
Blatantly putting them up to counter people rationing their use/putting in energy saving measures. Fuckers.
What other industries are allowed to charge a fee for the infrastructure required to sell you a product??
