  1. I’d jump at the chance to be a police officer. My local force hasn’t hired in forever though.

  2. Not surprised, being a copper is fucking shit.

Don’t think I know anyone who isn’t looking for an exit.

  3. Someone I know did this. Started the job, left within a year. Found it really rewarding work but couldn’t cope with the pay cut from previous job.

  4. Hardly a surprise. The nations demographic shift, the constant abuse, the state of the economy, no government or party that cares. It’s only going to get worse and less attractive to all you have left are the trigger happy bullies.

  5. It was an appealing job, once.

Before the cuts, before the pension got reamed, before it was every week the tabloids threw out a new and interesting way of blaming the Police for X, or implied every officer was in some way Racist/Bigots/Rapists etc and the public were being pushed to turn on them.

Let’s not even start on how TikTok and media trends lead to totally innocent officers, literally doing their job to the letter, ending up trawled through years of torture as they’re investigated for doing nothing wrong.

Once upon a time I saw what they were paid as being decent money, I couldn’t wait to get past probation and start earning good money….but decades on and as with so many other jobs, it’s absolute pish.

Combine that with the long hours, sheer amount of grief, tax on your mental (and physical at times) health it’s absolutely no wonder at all staff have, are and will continue to leave.

It looks _great_ on a CV, it gives you stories to entertain with, you can make friends for life, but it is simply not worth it for many.
Why work a job that even in good times you were discouraged from telling others about, but would get you almost mobbed now?

In a period where we could all be a damn sight more enlightened, that it’s not just seen as fine but accepted that not only are they paid crap, treated like crap and the media allowed to slander the organisation knowing it’s harmful to public interest that the Government _ever_ thought they’d recruit and retain 20k officers after they shafted at least as many baffles me – much less that the same Government _constantly_ kept lashing the Police for not doing enough yet were _also_ the ones that reamed them in the first place.

It’s like cutting off someone’s legs then criticising them for not tackling the stairs better.

  6. Ahh yes david cuntmoron’s austerity still doing wonders… christ i hate this fucking country.

  7. Shit money, shit shifts, shitty work culture where you are expected to keep your mouth shut if you see colleagues acting criminally and treated like shit by a large amount of the people you meet during work, can’t imagine why they have retention issues.
