I’m fuming the journal closed their comments on this story. It was full of heads saying “lol good luck getting a job elsewhere for that money” and ” I’m sure BBC will snap him up rofl” etc etc. I was looking forward to seeing them eat their words (wishful thinking I know!).
No doubt his RTE salary is a fraction of his new one now.

I didn’t mind Ryan. He wasn’t the worst, had a bit of charisma with the right guest. With the wrong guest or serious interviews, he was bad. Good luck to him.

I don’t get the hate. Presenters are highly improvisational actors. RTE management screwed up his career so he went to the UK. Wogan did well. In fact they all do.

This is about a lot more than Tubs getting a gig on Virgin Radio.
He is going to be franchised across several local radio stations here which are under common ownership. So a precedent seems to have been set where content can originate from anywhere the market want, this potentially putting local talent off air as a cheaper broadcasting model is pursued.

How much are Virgin paying him? It was never an issue that he wouldn’t get a job, the issue was he wasn’t worth what RTE were paying him. The fact that Callan is up 13k listeners would seem to show that.

Tubs is elitist, conservative, detached, entitled, narcistic…. He’s going to do just fine on UK Radio.
As bland as he is, he didn’t create the RTE shitshow but he was made the fall guy. So best of luck to him, hopefully it works well and he makes the transition like Graham Norton and Terry Wogan before him and has a long and prosperous career at the English taxpayers expense.
